Summary: Podcast
Download MP3BBC sounds music Radio podcasts we couldn't update from Australia on higher than listening arrangements for people overseas are working out the story in Gaza is developing daily, but it was an exchange between an Israeli spokesperson and today presenter Nick Robinson patient in guys that last week that divided opinion in the feedback inbox and your latest interview of the Year nomination is all about cricket and a very special interview on Match Special regular listeners to the Today programme the interview at 8:10 are familiar with gas receiving a grilling from presenters on a major issue of the day, but we're just trying to turn the tables list knows I've got a keen year for that the latest being Robinsons interview with Israeli spokesperson David Mensah on the Today programme on Friday the
July it started off well.
Good morning, Mr Mensa good morning near good to be with you.
I hope to take you stage by stage through this argument because it is an argument that produce passion my name is Stuart from your Exeter I am profoundly grateful to the BBC for its recent traffic average advisor prospects careers interview by Nick Robinson with you is really government spokesperson on Israel's genoside.
I am a retard consultant used to housing background circumstances, but I could not have done so half as well.
So I'll be interviewing other point Mustafa do you accept there is malnutrition in Gaza it's getting worse and some people are starving.
I will sadly say.
There is a listen to Nick several times in the morning and I'm sorry the last year was so is style has become very pushy and aggressive.
It's difficult to get a balance honest understanding of the news if your interview somebody was such a bias attitude and town it became very uncomfortable to listen to United Nations statue in order for the trucks that you just have just asked the question to you and then you must not cheap and it's unhelpful my name is Valerie Charlton from Gateshead congratulations to Nick Berry still interview on the 21st of July
Stephen said it's a further example at the need of gathering evidence and presenting it in parsley in form.
That is easy to understand to a wide range of listeners who asked to remain anonymous, so next perseverance or something different this morning programme wasn't Grace Robinson interviewing Israeli representative on the subject of current Salvation in Palestine he would not let the Israeli man.
Speak for more than a few seconds constantly interrupting.
I'm treating him with complete contempt.
I was Furious 7 try to interview on a slow program on the 25th of July it is so distressing to listen to Someone whose view is so just sorted but he only
Tesco points and distort the reality on the ground or thousands of Innocent women and children and men are being stabbed by the actions of the government sent it is obscene.
I'm not lying I'm putting a question to here is the question of then you'll get the chance to answer the question lying a man who didn't want to be named made this comment about the end of the interview BBC and it's staff.
I meant to be in partial and ask questions yet as the interview was the Israeli spokesperson was ending Nick Robinson maid a sarcastic remark about the Israeli spokesperson applying for a job at the BBC European repeating itself.
You'll forgive me.
I think we will probably go as far as we're going to get to with our common if you'd like to apply for the job at the BBC do-do-do-do tribet for the moment.
Thank you for joining us to tell us what the Israeli government is currently thinking David Mensah join.
Yes, they're not only was that last comment not a question.
It was not impartial.
The dangerous for any anti-semite out there it sends a clear message or certain is capable of being interpreted that way but somehow this is ready spokesperson is a Jewish less than some of the guest the Palestinian ambassador who has been on the program such as it is acceptable to make sarcastic remarks as the interview ends, so this person can respond professional impartial journalist should not be getting personal like this Miranda jessel from Paris hi Nick Robinson window interview interrupts continuously calls you a liar refuses to be held accountable and sell shouting just denied on the platform listeners on stupid and we know this interview is useless cutting off and bring on an aid worker instead of course.
I would have liked to have with your comments to nitro.
Directly but he's on holiday at present here is a statement on the BBC interview with Mr Mensa was robust and fair and Nick Robinson charged him throughout the semester was given ample to respond to the questions put to him every year feedback runs the search for the best interview on BBC audio the winner is chosen by a panel of listeners and the nights at the end of the year one can dominate the interview on any BBC radio station or BBC podcast last week.
We had Gary O'Donoghue interview President Trump this week.
It's listening Judy Hall suggest.
It's an interview conducted by Jonathan Agnew on test match special with Ravi a young visually impaired cricketer and superfan who plays blind cricket about to you were joined by a young cricket was expecting to be in the TMS commentary box this afternoon Ravi is a participant in the Lord's taverners super ones disability project in Northumberland and it's one of those who features in a new ECB campaign.
Play way to play which celebrates all the different ways and get involved in the game you played alongside Mark wood in the film which is well worth catching up with but rather it is a huge gyms fan, and we can you send me the visit to see I'm Jude Hall from Kidlington in Oxfordshire I've been a test match special listener for many years on 21st of June it was a delight to her Jonathan interview with 12-year old Rafi on the radio listen to cricket on the radio.
I love listening to cricket on test match special because it describes everything was gentle kind musing moving encyclopaedia.
I've been listening off the engine Jonathan gave Ravi plenty of time to amaze us with his encyclopedic knowledge of Cricket World Cup with England and
Stop doing that things in Headingley can't be easy but this was skillfully done and in no way captain you play by the looks of kneeling down.
Aren't you and you only play with a bat look like a horizontal that are so sweet the ball.
Don't you mean? Yeah? I was the horizontal and then I can play like the reverse sweep sweep Markle feeling wrap.
It was really enjoying himself.
Such a joyful interview with the best game that there is an thanks for coming and free.
Thank you brilliant.

BBC R4 feedback on social media and of course on BBC signs you can search for feedback and click to subscribe so you get every episode in your feed and you can listen whenever you like the UK search on the BBC app for feedback podcast and you do have to use that word podcast well.
You've been flooding feedback from across the globe your thoughts concerns rage and dismay since the introduction of that new BBC app which has replaced BBC signs for listeners outside the UK many people are concerned about 7, so we put some of the main ones to BBC we could get some respect a lot of people feel they will call Donna where is an only find out about the change on the 21st of July Spencer Gates Anderson
Cannot listen on demand something wrong.
We are especially interested in the world and of course feedback on the BBC says, they wear notices about this on the BBC Sounds app for sometime a lot of listeners contacted us saying they still have no idea why this change is taking place.
This is Quentin England from Switzerland on the dummies on BBC sounds my initial judgement of bbc.com what is a nightmare and nothing has changed the search function produces and I suspect they are indeed not there.
May be due to selection old feedback, but I think we were told that all available on BBC
These two centres in don't seem to make sense to fly back to this is Martina from Vancouver Canada I'm writing to you in on how the BBC sounds like continues to unfold referring to music this is irrelevant music is not the main reason people have been writing in the majority of people are concerned about losing access to BBC listening live is utterly useless to me if music and programs are so different in terms of licencing.
Why not separate them have an app just for the BBC programmes such as p.m.
Monday night comedies etc.
I'm Furious with the whole institution and cannot fathom out of touch the BBC is with it's audience sadly.
I will not get to hear the next week that program.
I can only hope I'm on my organisation has the courtesy to listen to what people are saying another listeners are asking what research or surveys were carried out before the move to end BBC signs overseas and some of us.
Play the new system was tested before it was launched Charlie from France I've been re listening to your interview with Mr wall on the 10th of July and trying to match his statements with the reality are trying to use the bbc.com app.
I've been trying to work out how to work the BBC viewpoint is the none of the people driving the change of actually use the new interface to any significant degree is called dogfooding in software circles eating the dog food be prepared before feeding it to the dogs is a fine way to determine just how well you've done the cooking and to avoid making a real dogs dinner.
I think it's a shambles if the true causes an either branding no financial not technical then why on earth would anyone sacrifice so much good as well?
Big questions there have been some very specific queries have I put you in the first week of overseas listers heard the live stream of Radio 4 Broadcasting House on Sunday morning.
It's now 33.
There's a threshold weekend for the war in Gaza between can discuss now with the former prime minister of Israel welcome to Broadcasting House was Robert Campbell I started listening to broadcasting house this morning in the so-called new BBC app.
I listened fine to about the first 35 min and then after first minute of Paddy O'Connell interview with David Almond about Gaza the stream was permanently interrupted by a number of listers asked the same question why cut the former Israeli Prime Minister I had olmutz interview.
What were the rights restrictions there?
We did ask the BBC what happened it turns out.
It was done to an error and not censorship the running order Broadcasting House changed and an interview with a head olmert intended for coverage of the Women's Euro final due to sporting rights restrictions the team had arranged this item to be geo blocked the late change the schedule meant part of this interview was in blocked and is why some uses of the BBC app and bbc.com heard this message episode of Broadcasting House has been updated and the interview is not available to listen to on the BBC app and bbc.com the interview with broadcast live on BBC Radio 4 on BBC sounds in the UK have been quite a few messages about the Archers podcast night last week.
I did confirm the podcast was attached to the end of the omnibus on the new BBC app.
Well that did have in the first week, but it wasn't the case on Sunday the 27th and hell hath no fury.
Archers listeners scotland.bbc spokesperson says that this week's episode of The Archers podcast will once again be available on the omnibus feed and the BBC I currently exploring options for where this content is best place for listeners now in a minute.
I'll be crossing times to talk to James cridland.
Who I first talk to you when BBC quietly and nights that the sign out would be going for overseas listeners before that here's a more philosophical voice note hello in an apple is Maryland in the USA alright today at a time for reflection on the recent closure of the Sounds app.
I've had time to remember my 60 + years of being BBC Radio 1 what it is meant to be over the years.
I was not unexpectedly just made by the news of the closure of that sounds about side the UK can it was someone else ways by the announcement that the contents which still
Put me on the new BBC app.
I have been exploring the possibilities and I'm finding ways to get to contend I most want and grateful for the Sexist and I'm not complaining about it being different sometimes cumbersome such as life is an early age.
I was showing how to find my way around the shortwave to find programs and I'm adjusting to the new reality of radio not what I wanted to go through to access to BBC and others I have no right reason to complain about the marriage situations especially in light of the recent cuts to public broadcasting in this country under the current administration.
Thanks very much for letting the rest of the world access all the BBC Radio programming no matter the Sweden ago.
She ate to get the best radio service in the world period thanks.
What do you want me know? It is a man who is personally and professionally affected by the first James
Is editor of pod news Daily Podcast newsletter and he also has the the wonderful job description of radio futurologist he consults on the future of our lives in Brisbane Australia so he is a frequent user of BBC signs or he was and now the new BBC app James welcome.
Thanks very much for coming back on feedback and the big question many people are asking is why did the BBC do this no, I did put that to Jonathan wall the head of signs but lots of listeners said the answer it he gave them none the Wiser so maybe you could give us your take it all to do with music rights so most of the BBC's domestic radio output obviously include music and music needs to be paid for and apparently on Radio 2 if you play a song that hundreds of pounds every time you play a song and that money obviously goes to music artists and to record companies and stuff, but the the BBC is only paying.
Music rights within the UK and for the last 30 years because that's how long the BBC has been streaming abroad the BBC's essentially got away with streaming.
It's radio stations internationally is they haven't put advertising random and have been marketing them two people overseas, but now they are obviously the BBC is doing a lot of commercial activities including advertising outside of the UK and adds the equivalent of £91 a year every licence fee payer and that's great, but it does mean if the BBC's earning money from overseas audiences, then you can see why record companies in the music artists will want some of that money and the problem is that's really hard to do and really expensive to the BBC is essentially left in a situation where they can't risk either promoting earning money from music radio overseas, so they done this little tiptoe around the rights in order to firstly having to close the BBC Sounds app, but also secondly having essentially.
the fact that you can still tune into the BBC's music stations overseas many of our customers have said that they would have been happy to have paid a subscription for BBC signs that ships clearly so I don't think it's as easy as just pay some money and then everything will go away because again as soon as you pay some money then there's music rights which are in the tens of millions in the UK alone needs to be paid for I mean the BBC annual report was out a couple of weeks ago and if you look in there, it's quite interesting only 6% of all players in the BBC Sounds app is for on-demand music radio only 6% to actually it's a very small yes very vocal but very small amount of the audiences suddenly in terms of and I think that's one of the issues is to its relatively small and so therefore for the BBC to always pay hundreds of millions on music rights globally which
Have to do that's not going to be covered by a few well-meaning people paying a little bit extra and this new BBC app is about BBC Studios the commercial of BBC trying to monetize BBC content outside the UK that's part of the reason for the new app.
Yeah absolutely so there's advertising in there.
There's advertising on the BBC sites as well as also advertising and BBC podcasts outside of the UK that has been for a long time and so outside the UK from pay to get rid of those ads if you want to it's about £35 a year but all of this goes to paying for paying for you paying for the BBC public broadcasting.
Let's talk about this new BBC app because I've not had a chance to have a look at it and it doesn't feel it's not an audio app.
Is it I mean it's it's a whole BBC app and it does feel rather to me like audio.
Is tat on.
You living in Australia how are you finding it our time zone is obviously that catch up is a very helpful thing and with all of these changes we don't have catch up anymore.
We only have live radio and particularly.
It's quite difficult on the BBC app to find some of the content because there's no special search just for the audio so if you search for the Arches for example then lots of stories about sport which is great until you finally find the Archers radio programme you know underneath so I think from that point of view.
It's not quite there.
It's a news app with audio shoehorned into it one of the biggest issues from any of our listeners is the lack of on-demand listening particularly for programs like radio 4S flagship today.
X x like yours or indeed in the US were listening life isn't an option mean unless you want to get up in the middle of the night.
You just can't hear it anymore.
Do you think that could change I mean? That's not a rights issue.
I guess from the BBC's point of view I was to put a BBC hat on for a second I guess what I will be thinking is most of these shows are available as podcast cast already have advertising in them and so therefore.
I don't want people using catch up when I would much rather that they used the podcast version which has the advertising in it and that's fine when you're looking at Monday Night Comedy for example.
That's fine when you're looking at more or less which is one of my favourite shows but it's not necessarily so fine when you're looking at the day programme all things like p.m.
Or all of that and particularly when you have a look at the bbc.com website you find a link to listen again to Today programme or 2 p.m.
You click it and it flashes and then it gives you a a page saying this content is unavailable so
It almost looks as if you followed a broken leg, but the hasn't been any hand-holding of the audience to actually explain what's going on and to explain how you can have a listen to p.m.
For example.
There is a podcast for that particular show there is also a best of the Today programme podcast which you can which you can get yeah.
I had a look at the back of the today and I didn't work out how you got an updated version of that it hasn't been updated since October 2024 so one would assume either they serve on about it or does mean nothing good on that programme ever since then a number of listeners have said to me you look you can just use a VPN a virtual private network could have fooled the internet to thinking that the devices in the UK when it isn't but that's really not what the BBC One said yeah.
I mean I don't really want to recommend a VPN here.
It's technically illegal to break content protection in.
Is including the US and this is what this is it's content protection, but live radio is still available everywhere just not promoted by the BBC anymore the easiest way to get BBC live radio by the way is to use a web browser.
Just use a web browser.
You don't even app and go to the old radio websites if you remember that used to be at bbc.co.uk / Radio 2 bbc.co.uk / Radio Sheffield those work anywhere in the world you can find a big list in the faq section in the ass as well if you could change like this new app.
What would it be? I was certainly include On Demand Radio 4 Radio 4 and for the world service.
I'm surprised that Radio 4 Extra isn't there Frankie am surprised that 5 Live isn't there either but I would certainly include On Demand radio there.
I don't think that it's going to come back for music radio.
I'm afraid but for Radio 4 for the world service make sure that you can.
Find the shows that you want to have a listen to make sure there's a really clear programme schedule in there and bringing On Demand back for those services.
I think will be a really good plan well.
Let's hope someone's James cridland radio futurologist many thanks.
Thank you BBC Studios good feedback this statement.

As "Clipped" does such an appalling job, that's a good question. I suspect we won't get an answer from the site owner!
