Digital Terrestrial TV Requirements for Interoperability

The D-Book has continued to support the developments of products and services with the introduction of Single Frequency Network support for the migration of COM 78 T2 multiplexes into the 700 MHz band, defining the profile of UHD to be supported in compatible receivers for broadcast and bringing the HbbTV requirements up to date with recent work by the HbbTV Association and DVB. The DTT platform is always evolving and this means removing requirements that are no longer required. Ian chairs a number of industry groups within the DTG, including the Technical Oversight Group which oversees all technical activities within the DTG. Ian started his career as a Test Software Engineer at aviation firm Smiths Industries before spending three years at Pioneer's Digital Design Centre creating test and verification software for a variety of MPEG-1, MPEG-2 video, VSB, and QAM silicon designs. - dtg.org.uk

RAJAR Q3/2019 – Matt Deegan Writes

The stations with high average hours do well - and these tend to be the older appealing ones - R4, R2, Classic and LBC. The younger stations with shorter consumption lengths start to drift. With commercial radio now just three lager radio groups, the idea of a single station being the be all and end all, is long gone. - www.mattdeegan.com

'You can't stop people watching': why BBC subscriptions are a long way off

Other free services such as the incredibly popular BBC News website would have to disappear behind a paywall, while the public have historically been upset at the prospect of adverts appearing on BBC radio or television. The theory within the BBC is that people are happy to knock the corporation until they face up to the reality that they would lose a specific favourite service. - www.theguardian.com

The Guardian view on the BBC: watch closely

The transformation of the global media landscape by streaming services makes the compulsory 154.50 charge harder to justify than it was when the BBC dominated the UK's television landscape. Last month Mark Thompson, the BBC's former director-general, gave a speech arguing that commercial and technological innovation by the BBC has been stymied by a combination of hostile politicians, rightwing competitors and an outdated regulatory framework. - www.theguardian.com
