I am 85 years old. What help will I get at Changeover? Free set-top? Free on site support?
I have line of sight to Newhaven aerial, single group aerial in loft, but will fit allgroup aerial in May.
I have a 4 - way booster amplifier. Will this work for digital?
I have a Trinitron bedroom TV with no Scart or HDMI. Can you adapt this for digital?

Philip J Thomas: You should not (in all likelihood) have to replace your aerial because the group is the same after changeover.

Philip J Thomas: Yes, see The Switchover Help Scheme can help you make the switch to digital TV. | Switchover Help Scheme for details. They should contact you and provide you with some help and a free set-top box, or contribution towards something more advanced.
You may have to remove the booster from your system.

Newhaven
Mike Dimmick's post mostly answers my questions (which I posted on the Brighton Freeview page but here it is again for the Newhaven forum:
'I live near the top of the valley in Denton . I am aware of the switchover due in March onwards, and I have a couple of comments and questions.
'I receive Freeview (and DAB - proper outside aerials)from Whitehawk and have for years lost ITV, & 4 etc in wet weather. I realised on New Years Day that I was watching Ch4 and it was raining, so yes, well pleased with improved performance!
'After Newhaven comes on stream will it still be sensible to pick up Freeview from Brighton (ie do nothing other than retune) or should I realign my aerial (or even need a new aerial, get rid of the amplifier etc)?'

Dave Rogers: There are twice as many services, and in the future more on Whitehawk Hill that are not on, and will never be on the Newhaven transmitter.

I am in Lewes. Will I be able to receive the Whitehawk signal? The Newhaven service looks poor.

I've been getting weak digital TV reception in Seaford for the last few days. ITV disappears for hours at a time, and sometimes I can't get BBC1, only BBC4. Analogue TV is fine. I have a digital aerial on the top of my chimney pointed at the Newhaven transmitter, and it looks ok from ground level. I have a Panasonic TV 26LXD500 + HUMAX PVR 9200T + Antiference P1200 signal booster. My equipment hasn't changed recently, and I have tried retuning the TV several times. I have also tried retuning the HUMAX PVR, and it sometimes manages to find BBC1 when the Panasonic TV can't find it at all.

Roger Strange: There are no digital transmissions yet from Newhaven. Your aerial, coincidentally points to Whitehawk Hill, which is the source of your digital signals. Note that MuxB (BBC4) is at 1kW, whereas Mux2 is only 400W and Mux1 is 200W. After switchover all muxes will be transmitted at 4kW, so you should find your problem solved. In the meantime check cables and connectors, just in case any signal is being lost with a poor connection.

Roger Strange: If your aerial (there is no such thing as a "digital aerial" BTW) is pointing at Newhaven, then you are receiving signals from another transmitter as Newhaven doesn't broadcast any digital at the moment.
From your location, the angle between Newhaven and Whitehawk is only 4 degrees, so it is probably irrelevant which it is actually directed at. The only difference is that Newhaven uses Group B channels and Whitehawk is C/D. This may be of concern if the aerial is a Group B one (intended for Newhaven), but if it's wideband it should be OK.
When switchover happens, you will only get the Public Service Broadcaster (PSB) channels from Newhaven whereas Whitehawk will provide a full service. Assuming the the iffy signals you are receiving now are coming from the latter, then you will probably be able to receive Whitehawk when it switches over which is 7th and 21st March.
The switchover for Newhaven (as a relay of Heathfield) is 30th May and 13th June. Once Newhaven has switched over, whenever you tune or retune your equipment, you will have to watch that it doesn't pick up Newhaven PSBs.
