We have loft aerial on Sony 28" TV with Humax PVR 9150T also 16" Sony Tv and powered indoor aerial with Argos STB101X1. We can see the Bampton transmitter clearly from our home distance 1.2 miles. Over the last 10 days or so we along with several local people and neighbours have been experiencing intermittent pixelisation and occasional quite load popping on both BBC1 & BBC2 with no problem on the independent channels. We have had no problems receiving the programmes until quite recently. There do not appear to be any reported transmitter faults. please investigate this matter. Thank you. T.Dapp

Am in Williton and can only get BBC and ITV Wales. Anyone know why? Very frustrating. Want to know what's happening in the South West.

Chris Gilbert: If you supply your postcode a check can be made of which transmitters can be received in your area. It would appear that you are receiving signals from Wenvoe, which you will need to do for reception of a full Freeview service. However you might be able to receive additionally signals from a local relay supplying BBC West news. Taking a couple of Williton postcodes as a reference, Washford would appear to be the most likely relay transmitter which would offer a BBC West service on C59.

When will the Bampton transmitter provide full coverage of ALL Freeview channels?
link to this comment |
Mike: Unfortunately the likely answer is "never".
The Bampton transmitter only carries Public Service Broadcaster (PSB) multiplexes, just like 1,000 or so similar small relay transmitters. The Commercial (COM) multiplex operators achieve a coverage of 90% of the population from 81 of the largest transmitters (largest by viewer population).
For them to transmit from the relays would roughly double their cost of transmission whilst only adding 8.5% of the population to their potential viewer bases. As they operate for profit and have no "Public Service" obligation, they opted not to invest in the relays.

I don't think it is reasonable for those receiving signal from the Bampton transmitter to find that BBC1 and BBC2 had disappeared yesterday, without any warning, and secondly without any idea of what was required to correct this situation. I have worked out that I needed to retune each TV but others might not be aware of this.
To me this shows a lack of customer awareness bordering on contempt, and is just not acceptable.

MHEG popups (linked to use of the blue and yellow buttons) are to run on the BBC A and D3&4 muxes and be shown on BBC1, BBC2, ITV1, Channel 4 and Channel 5 services. MHEGs will run for 7 days before the event and for 2 days after as below:
D3&4 MHEGs: will be seen by viewers of MENDIP and all of its relays. Only viewers of the Bampton and Culm Valley relays (in the Stockland Hill transmitter group) will see ITV, Channel 4 and Channel 5 MHEGs. BBC A MHEGs: will be seen by viewers of MENDIP and all of its relays. The Bampton and Culm Valley relays (in the Stockland Hill transmitter group) will not carry MHEGs due to technical constraints.
-----
According to this, MHEGs were shown on ITV, Channel 4 and Channel 5 from the Bampton relay.
I'm in Yorkshire and receive from the main station Emley Moor and yesterday an MHEG appeared for a retune on 10th April. However, Emley Moor itself isn't affected and only three of its relays are. So clearly they have gone with the approach of telling everyone as they don't have the ability to broadcast the messages only to those who will be affected.

Thanks for this reply.
I certainly never saw any popup messages at all. Neither has anyone else I have spoken to in the Bampton area. So I have to wonder whether it actually happened.
Thanks
