BBC expands to six non-UK channels
Previously the UK brand for BBC FOUR, the BBC Knowledge name is being revived as part of the package of BBC channels for non-domestic customers. BBC Prime will also be superseded by BBC Lifestyle and BBC Entertainment and an international version of cBeebies.
These TV channels will be available on global satellite (linear) television and cable TV, on mobile phones, video-on-demand and online. The BBC will also produce a global HD service and a US kids channel.
Around the world, the package will be localized. For example there will be a Hindi version of cBeebies - one of the first channels to start.
cBeebies will be a subscription channel and, like the UK licence-fee funded channel, will not carry adverts. BBC Entertainment will have adverts and will also be a subscription service.
BBC World will continue to provide an international rolling news service.
