Robert: Going by the coverage maps for your location, pointing your aerial towards Crystal Palace (55 degree compass bearing) should give you all 3 national muxes (BBC, D1 & SDL) along with Surrey and all 3 London muxes.

Nicholas:

Switching off and back on quickly runs the risk of damaging the electronics inside the box. If you have a 'stuck' box it is best to turn it off and unplug the mains supply for at least 5 minutes. Then plug back in again and wait for the internal system to reset, another 5 minutes is recommended. Then turn the box on again and hopefully all will be well, unless there is a fault in the box.

MikeP: When i said,on/off it was assumed that people use their brain and leave as you say five minutes,DO I HAVE to explain things to the nineth degree. In my area, there are power supply breaks which indeed are quick,no damage so far, although i am aware that boxes can be damaged,n...................

Nicholas:

In electronics it is essential to fully stated clearly exactly what you do or did. You did not say anything about leaving the equipmenty switched off fo several minutes and as many non-technical people do just that I was trying to save you money to replace a damaged box. So Yes, you do have to state everything.

Have you checked with your immediate neighbours whether thay have the same problem? Have you checked which multiplexes your are trying to receive are the ones from the correct transmitter?

MikeP: it is called common sense really, where i live, the only tx is oxford, theres some signal from hannington, but really oxford is sufficent,it seems theres a lot of multipath reception dragging down the quality but as the signal strength is high, the copper dipole is more than adequate, one just moves it around,i'm more interested in radio reception,n...........

Nicholas:

A great many do not know much about TV and Radio transmission and reception, hence the need to spell out the detail. If you do know, you should have said.

If you are experiewncing significant multipath reception you need a more directional aerial to eliminate the extraneous unwanted paths. A simple dipole will not do that as you should know.
