karen: You should use the right size aerial for the job. Bigger is not necessarily better - you can have too much signal, which can be as bad as not enough, and the aerial will be subject to more force from the wind. This force can damage the mast or even the building itself if the mast is too small or not properly secured for the load.

In most cases, a new aerial does not have to be any larger than the existing one, though it depends on whether the transmitter provides, or will provide, all services within the same group as before.

Any idea what happened at 6:15pm at Winter Hill during the BBC ONE continuity announcement and the beginning of DOCTOR WHO yesterday Sat 07 May 2011. Two dramatic breaks in picture and sound with green picture dispalcement. Was this due to LIGHTNING which was around at the area at the time. Ruined my recording. No power cut here ? Would have recorded it from Moel-y-Parc if I had known.

I recently cancelled Sky. I had Sky HD with multiroom. Now, my SkyHD box works as expected (i.e no PVR functionality but able to view tv), but the box in the second room has stopped working. It says no signal found. Its the original Thomson Sky+ box which the HD box replaced if that makes sense.

If I plug in a (very old) standard Sky box from yesteryear, this picks up all free channels fine, however it's remote is tatty and broken and the box itself look a little ugly.

Is there a way to get the Sky+ box to work? I understand I wont have any PVR functionality, but it will look nicer and has a remote.

Thanks
Steve

Steve Turnbull: I believe second units in an official multi-room installation have a special 'multiroom' card, that stops working if you cancel the multiroom subscription. Try swapping the viewing card out of the old box that works.

It might even spring to life if you just remove the viewing card, but some channels (e.g. 5*, 5 USA) won't work as they are broadcast encrypted, and need the card to decrypt them.

I have a freeview TV in my bedroom run off a fairly new aerial situated in my loft. I have up until this last week had really good reception with no problemm, then all the channels started breaking up. I have purchased a booster which has enabled me to watch BB1 and BB2 but nothing else. Can you please advise? I live in Kitts Green, B33 0AQ. Thank you.
