Digital switch-over problems

There are now a number of issues related to digital switchover (DSO) in the UK.

The Sutton Coldfield transmitter that serves Birmingham is having all the current analogue and digital services moved to a second temporary mast. This work was due to be completed last month, but the bad weather has not allowed the "air work" to be completed quickly.

With the power level reported to be about an eighth of normal, this has caused many people reception problems in second largest city in England.

Despite being close to the first digital switch-over in Whitehaven, it seems that people using the Bleach Green transmitter are unable to scan for Freeview services. However, they do work if the viewer manually tunes their box toC53, C57 and C60. "Digital UK says they are now working with Ofcom and the broadcasters to fix the problem".

Down in Cornwall, the Redruth transmitter is stuck in limbo. Cornish people can now watch digital TV from the transmitter and relays, but the commerical multiplexes are on the old power levels and old frequencies until 30 September 2009.

It would appear that the 30 September Freeview retune will be an important date nationwide.

I have a Sky dish which allows me to watch normal sky tv in my downstairs lounge. I also have a high gain aerial fed through my sky box which lets me watch freeview in another room. After re-tuning my main TV I now find I have freeview but am unable to receive sky tv. Is there anything I can do to resolve this problem.

Worcester

I live in Worcester and have really bad reception if any.
My free view box loads itv channels then not bbc channels. If i reload i get the oppersite some times. Other times after all channnels have loaded i then change channnels only to loose them all again.
Is there a problem for this area and if so when is it expected to be coeerected. Also will i get a discount on my tv licence for no service.

Harold D Streets: You should have perfect service from a rooftop aerial pointing at the Malvern transmitter.

There are no problems in your area. You must pay the TV Licence if you have a TV set, but it is still your responsibly to ensure you have reception.

Since the digital changeover in St. Ives, Cambridgeshire, my tv is slow to respond to the remote, my epg takes ages to load information, my text is so slow I can make a cup of tea waiting for it to load, changing channels is not instant, either. Attempts to download software updates offer nothing. Frustrated!

M Healey: I would first check the batteries in the remote.

Did you do a "first time installation" at switchover? Have you tried this - My Freeview box has no EPG, is blank on FIVE, ITV3, ITV4, ITV2+1, has no sound or the channel line up is wrong | ukfree.tv - independent free digital TV advice on your set?

Before the Digital Switchover in the East of Scotland, our DV Recorder could record all the BBC channels. Now since the Switchover a couple of weeks ago, everytime we wish to record any of the BBC stations e.g. BBC1, BBC2, BBC3 or BBC4, it states there is no signal to record. The Television picture is perfect. Please help.
