get_iplayer to return
I had written a "how to" article about using the get_iplayer application to perform a number of useful functions, such as getting HD content to your HDTV, or getting radio programmes as MP3 files to listen to off-line.
Then, just as I was about to post, the developer withdrew, see get_iplayer dropped in response to BBC's lack of support for open source - Linuxcentre
.
However, I can exclusively reveal that a new team has taken over and is going to re-factor get_iplayer, and it will return soon.

you made this statement a long time ago now and yet never followed up with any details, is there any app as of today that replaces this old app, and if so what is its working direct web page and details please ?
preferably a self contained unzip and run get_iplayer replacement app that works in both windows and linux for simplicity and livecd use.

not happy: get_iplayer is no longer maintained by the same person, but you can now find it at get_iplayer lives! .
Worked last time I tried it a few weeks ago (I use it to watch programmes through my Xbox 360 rather than on the laptop screen).

Mike Dimmick: It works, but you have to make a modification to download HD content now, and I also found I had to run the script "as an administrator" for HD to download.

I don't know if this is relevant for this forum (I use Linux)
It's just that I use the GUI (giplayer) from
giPlayer | SourceForge.net
and it seems to have an "HD" capability
