Changed multiplex names in shutdown notes

The UK Digital switchover simulation page generates data that appears on many pages.

Due to creating this page back in June 2007, it used the old multiplex names that were used by Ofcom during the European frequency negotiations: PSB1, PSB2, PSB3, COM4, COM5 and COM6.

These are being used in place of the old, legal names Multiplex 1, 2, B, A, C and D - because of the change of allocations and modes.

As it turns out, 2/PSB2 and A/COM4 have remained the same before and after switchover, already being in 64QAM mode.

Since 2007, Ofcom now refers to the multiplexes by the owner's name, so they are now: BBCA, D3+4 (Digital 3 and 4 Ltd), BBCB, SDN (S4C Digital Networks), ArqA and ArqB (Arqiva).

However, BBCB whilst remaining the legal ownership of the BBC, has been used for the Freeview HD service.

S4C Digital Networks long since sold their multiplex to ITV plc (and spent the money).

I have, therefore, changed the database to reflect the usage of BBCA, D3+4, BBCB, SDN, ArqA and ArqB for primary use.

2/PSB2 and A/COM4 aren't completely identical. 2 and A are in 2K mode, while PSB2 and COM4 are in 8K mode.

This doesn't affect capacity (or by only a very small amount), but does affect the robustness of the signal - 8K mode can cope with more distant/more delayed reflections.

Mike Dimmick: Thanks, yes, the mode change is another factor, which gets covered on the transmitter pages.

I was thinking more in terms of my database and code that puts up pages of what's where.

theuns: Where did you move from and where did you move to, and what sort of digital system do you have (aerial, satellite, cable)?
