BBC Alba to start broadcasting on Freeview Scotland from 8 June
Brian Butterworth published on UK Free TV BBC Alba, the Gaelic language service, which has proved popular with satellite viewers in Scotland will be broadcast on Freeview from 8th June 2011.
However, to make way for the new TV channel, Freeview radio listeners in Scotland will no longer be able to listen to ten BBC Radio stations: Radio 1, Radio 2, Radio 3, Radio 4, 4 Extra, 5 Live Sports Extra, World Service, Asian Network, Radio Scotland and Radio nan Gaidheal whilst BBC Alba broadcasts, but 1Xtra, 5 Live and 6 Music will continue as normal. Most of the removed services can be listened to on AM and FM, and they all continue as normal on cable and satellite.
Scotland's First Minister Alex Salmond will front a "Open Your Eyes" campaign to promote the service, which also carries English subtitles.
The channel broadcasts from 5pm during the week, and from the afternoon at the weekend, and can also be watched live online or as catchup using the BBC Alba iPlayer

So when alba gets this prime position!!! does that mean on 8th June when you switch on the TV tune into radio Scotland with cable TV.and no fiddling with any radio buttons or interference.the Ian Anderson show at 10.30 will not be broadcasting on RADIO SCOTLAND because i cannot make any sense of this new format??HOWEVER YOU DRESS IT UP!!!Pleasr explain.

Zimmy: If you are watching cable tv the radio stations will continue to broadcast on their usual channels.It is only viewers to Freeview services in Scotland who will lose the radio stations during the hours that BBC Alba is on the air. This is due to there being no spare capacity on MuxBBCA to slot in extra channels.

Briantist: That is a novel solution. Could they compromise and do audio with a text image stating the date, topic of debate and who is speaking at the time?

But they have to loose 13!!!Scottish Station Just to Add 1= more Station???
Due to no room at the inn to Slot THE Extra
Station (into MUX BBC A..)CAN THEY NOT PAY THE MONEY FOR AN UPGRADE?? more room
OR Buy/Rent LARGER SIZE MUX A. WHEN THEY BOUGHT OR RENTED THAT INADIQUITE SIZE IN THE 1ST PLACE??

I think this is very much a Capacity =Issue but not with jargon like MUX A Slots more a money in the Slot Issue. what you think or have i been to direct That your going to take the 5th ?? mind this is not America.Its SCOTTISH PEOPLE PAYING FOR A SERVICE ALL 13 OF THEM THANX IN ADVANCE.
