Want faster mobile access to free TV information?
Now that over 30% of the visits to UK Free TV are from Android and iOS devices, I have made a number of changes to the site:
Firstly, I have reduced the number of graphics used to load the pages.
For example, if you now use a device that does not have a screen large enough to display the large photographic background, this will not now load.
Another example is that you will now see a two-colour box with a capital letter instead of the pale-coloured "anonymous" silhouettes - that's unless you have provided an Twitter name (@name) or emailed in a picture.
The second example of changes is the links in both the settings (for your own location) and in comment posts (for the commenter's location) have been changed from simple links to buttons.
These are easier to hit with a finger (rather than a mouse). There is now an added bonus of a direct link to the "Reception list" page - and the three off-site links now work properly if you have entered a national grid reference or latitude, longitude pair.
Don't forget that My Freeview can detect your location if you use a mobile device to access the site!
Question
I am interested to know if mobile uses of UK Free TV would like more "responsive design" - where the layout of the pages is made "narrower" for small screens. It will take a bit of work to make UK Free TV do this, but there are other improvements that can be made if this isn't a priority.
