Can I use my digital freeview box abroad and receive English channals?
No. You cannot receive signals from UK Freeview transmitters abroad. You box will be able to receive local "DVB-T" transmittions, if there are any.
You can use satellite equipment pointing at the Astra 2D satellite from some European countries however to get around 100 UK free-to-air channels.

paul: I would use a Freesat HD box, you get a better programme guide and you will be able to record on a Freesat+HD box. The services you can get are dependant in the size dish you can use.

Thanks Brian. is it the 2d satellite we will need to get on or something with a smaller footprint?

paul: Most of the things you want to watch are on Astra 2D. You should probably ask a local installer to assist as they will have experience in the required dish sizes.

Hello,
I am about to buy a second-hand Bush TV (with full HD, USB port, built-in DVD etc), would you kindly tell me if this will work in Portugal, the development has an enormous satellite dish.
Many thanks.
PS A bit urgent!

Hi Brian, I have looked at the previous posts you have made and have a few specific questions you may be able to answer. I want to get just the UK Freeview channels in the Czech Republic. If I got a FreeSat HD box would I be able to pick them all up if I had the correct size dish and pointed it at Astra 2D. Thanks in advance.

Hello. My question is the following: I am moving to Barcelona in January and own a Freeview recorder. Will it be any use to me there (not sure if there is a dish where I'm moving to) or shall I leave it behind? Thanks.

Adeline - Your Freeview recorder won't really be any use to you in Spain. You might be able to receive Satellite broadcasts from the UK. but will require a larger dish antenna. It's possible an ex pat rigger(s) may be operating in the Barcelona area who could advise you on this. - You can check this out through ads in the local English language paper once there.

I have a Freeview built-in TV that I am planning to use in Switzerland, but not sure which additional devices that I need to buy in the UK before moving. Could anyone give some suggestions? Many thanks.

SBlue - You can't watch Freeview from the on board tuner in your TV as it's designed to receive reception from UK transmitters. You might be able to receive "Freesat" in Switzerland, but would require to purchase a suitable receiver and this would require an appropriate sized satellite dish installed to your residence. I have a friend living in France, but close to Geneva, who can receive "Freesat" OK there, using a Humax DTR Satellite bos.
