Can I use my digital freeview box abroad and receive English channals?
Brian Butterworth published on UK Free TV No. You cannot receive signals from UK Freeview transmitters abroad. You box will be able to receive local "DVB-T" transmittions, if there are any.
You can use satellite equipment pointing at the Astra 2D satellite from some European countries however to get around 100 UK free-to-air channels.

Libby Davey: If you have a non-HD Sky box it won't make the slightest difference.
Full HD will provide 66% better resolution (1080 line) compared to a HD Ready (720 line) T, if you have Sky+HD.

Many thanks for your help. We are just changing from cable to Sky in order to take it with us so it will depend what we get from Sky - prob a HD box as it will be new! If it is, we will get a Full HD TV. Again, many thanks.

Hi, I have an english friend living in Italy. She has a satellite dish which only picks up digital Italian TV but she would live to watch Freeview. I am going next week and thought I would take my old Freeview box with me to try but before I do that, does anyone know if it will pick up the channels?

Kaye: No, it won't. Freeview is a UK terrestrial service.

oh dear. A friend of mine said he plugged in his Freeview box in Spain and it worked - maybe he got it wrong?

Kaye: It will show you most of the local Spanish channels, but I would suspect that isn't what you want.
You can use Freesat in Spain, but you need to have a correctly sized and aligned dish.

Hi,
I was wondering if anyone could help me with this problem i am experiencing. I have a new Samsung tv which i purchased from amazon online and was shipped from a european depot. I assume the television was designed for UK use.
I currently live in Vienna, Austria, and had the tv shipped over. When turning the tv on, i selected "Austria" from a list of options as to where i live. However, I have also purchased in Vienna a HDMI box and cable, which are not recognised by the television.
I have had several conflicting responses as to how to watch normal tv in Austria. Could someone please give me an answer and let me know exactly what i need to do or buy to fix this. Some have said i need to alter the tv, while others have suggested buying an HDMI box from england.
Please help!!

Naldo: Nothing is required, the EU hardmonised power at 230V decades ago - other than the correct lead or power plug.
