Hotbird requires a Satellite dish aligned to 13degrees South East. The twin outlet allows for a SKY plus or Freesat plus receiver with an on board HDD and twin tuners that facilitate program recording of two separate channels whilst watching another. You can record with the Technomate with a USB HDD or high capacity Pen Drive, but as it only has a single tuner more than one recording is tied to channels on the same transponder as that which you are watching. Some Flat complexes have more than one Dish as in some London Boroughs where the needs of multiple cultures are catered for. You need to check out with the responsible agency to ascertain what your service provision allows for.

Marcello- If your planning to go with SKY at some time then they will fit a dish for you with their package and installation. which will give you the UK channels. As for SKY Italia and Germany then the most versatile option would be to install a motorised system with 80/88cm dish - SKY dishes aren't the best for this purpose. I would suggest the following:- Triax TD series dish of the aforementioned size(s) Inverto Black Quad LNB giving you four ports for receiver connection(s) and either a STAB or Dark Diseqc Motor - Ground sited if possible for ease of maintainence.

Notts Uk - The BBC neither Pay for carriage on SKY nor do they get any return from SkY for content carried on that platform. This was made clear by Mark Thompson BBC DG following his past Lecture at the Edinburgh TV event (currently this year being addressed by Eric Schimdt from Google) - I can't remember clearly whether he commented on Channel 4's position but he did make it clear that it was costing ITV to go out on the SKY platform and commented quite forcefully his view that SKY really needed to plough back some of it's vast profit's into UK generated programming content.
I certainly concur with Mike Dimmick's views in his last paragraph, but broadcasting and SKY's position has changed considerably since Satellite Broadcasting's conception here in the UK.
Without the PSB's and ITV going out on that platform it certainly wouldn't be in the position it is today without the effective "shoring up" it had from the afore-mentioned's inclusion and let's be quite frank - yes it was a gamble on Murdoch's part and it did give a massive kick start to Satellite Broadcasting in the UK and further a field, but it has created for itself a ruthless monopoly - not to mention a pricing cartel that makes the vast majority of the British viewing public disadvantaged in Television viewing choice.

Briantist - Yes I probably should have worded that somewhat differently, as I was highlighting what is often portrayed by the pro-lobby as a defence for the outrageous pricing of their current subscriptions.

Mike Dimmick:- This didn't come across at all at the point when Mark Thompson was interviewed by Andrew Marr. If Correct this seems to me to be an absolute abuse of the licence fee where the vast majority of the British public who are required by law to pay that licence fee - and where there exists the alternative platforms of "Freeview" and "Freesat" = are unaware that this legal requirement exists.
It's clearly time for the legal requirement for inclusion on the SKY platform of the PSB's to have a radical shake up - especially when there now exists a 5year cap on the licence fee which will clearly effect program content across the board for the BBC. Not to mention the loss of posts in the
PSB sector.

Mike Dimmick - Just to add if the financial saving that could be made by unlocking the cost of this "hamstrung" arrangement were to be realised this would go someway to impact on current current cut backs having to be made by the BBC and perhaps for Channel 4. As for the 30% of the viewing public who "Chose" to subscribe to SKY being unhappy should the PSB's have this legal requirement removed. Then this runaway "Cash Cow" ie:- SKY have clearly the resources to include the aforementioned in their EPG at no cost. There is clearly a commercial benefit to them in undertaking to do so.

Briantist it seems to me that the content of this document needs passing to the Guardian Editorial desk with an appropriate covering letter. Perhaps they may see fit in publishing a news story that clearly brings to their readers and perhaps the current and Shadow Media and Culture Minister(s) the continuing nonsense associated with this current legal bind on the PSB's.

David - I've no problem in people having choice and if one can afford it at SKY's subscription rates that's OK. What I and I suspect many many others will object to is the money being paid to SKY by the Public Service broadcasters - being legally constrained to do so - ie:- generated from the licence from us all, This effectively meaning that 70% of licence fee payers currently get no return from this where this should be directed into programming and maintaining staffing levels. It's a very different playing field now from that when for many years SKY were a loss making commercial concern it no longer requires effective 'shoring up' with PSB's when there are two alternative platforms in "Freeview" and "Freesat". I am not saying they should necessarily come off SKY's platform but if SKY want them on it and inclusion on their EPG. they should be the one's paying for that. I wonder how their business model would fair were the PSB's legal constraints to be removed and a decision taken to move off and concentrating their Satellite broadcasting without the middle man in their existing direct links with Astra, Eutelsat and the "Freesat" platform.

P.T.White - Check the cable connection to the receiver to make sure it's sound and hasn't loosened. - If that's sound and still no signal your dish may have moved off signal or the receiver may have a fault. You can check the receiver if you can connect to another dish through a relative or friend. If it that's OK then your left with the probality of a problem at the dish end either through movement of dish - cabling issue or faulty LNB.
