Ann,
We are in the top right hand side of the yellow coverage area And about 13 km from the transmitter at RH13 0RA and lose Mux A when it rains. I too believe this is degradation of the signalquality by leaves. I am able to measure signal strength using a spectrum analyser and although the signal strength does drop it is still strong enough to be above the signal strength required by the TV and set top boxes I use.
However the signal quality is too poor for the digital decoder to decode the signal. I believe this is because of the multiple paths that the signal has to take to get through the trees, an effect known as scintillation.
I'm hoping the problem will go away after switch over but as it's not a signal strength problem I am fearful it will not. So maybe the chain saw will have to come out. Only three dozen trees to remove!
