According to Sony's own website the devices that do not filter out the 4G 800MHz frequencies that are therfore not Freeview friendly are:
RDR-HXD770, 790, 870, 890, 970, 995, 1070, and 1095. This list is not necessarily exhaustive.
The symptoms include your device showing "Update" without it ever completing and of course the loss of your Freeview channels.
Short term solution:
1. Press and hold the power button which effectively reboots your device.
2. Disconnect the power supply for 30 seconds to flush out any memory resident erroneous data that has been captured.
3. Reconnect the power supply.
4. Switch your device on again.
Long term solution:
Buy yourself a 4G filter from such places as Maplins or Argos to name but two. They are about £8 or so.
You then plug your aerial into the 4G filter and then connect the 4G filter to your device.
The role of the 4G filter is to filter out unwanted 800MHz frequencies that cause your device to experience loss of Freeview.
Note: Certain transmitters have been undergoing a realignment in readiness for the 4G mobile network.
