The DAB retune event is to enable the service following for car radios.
It's been done before for individual stations, but never on this scale.
In a nutshell, each and every DAB service has something called a SId (Service Identifier). These are being changed. If Arqiva, the transmission provider, just changed the SIds in one go then the old SIds would fall silent and listeners would be left with two services with the same name, one working and one not.
But what is actually happening is that there is a period of services running with dual SIds which means when the old one is turned off listeners will have a meaningless label in their service list, and one good label in their list.
This was something I kicked off a few years ago to mitigate against listener confusion and I have to say works very well in doing so. Digital Radio UK's advice to retune radios is a bit draconian as most won't need to be retuned. Many DAB radios just take note of whatever is on a multiplex regardless of what station is listened to, and some will scan for new stations when in standby periodically.

stevie mccallum: How about asking the channel themselves rather than posting on a website about free tv/radio channels?

I think the reason other people's posts are blank is because they've not entered a postcode on to this site yet, that's all. If you search other pages on this site the same applies to certain posts by other users.
