In response to why it costs so much to install an aerial. Firstly £150 is very expensive for a basic install, and average in the Leeds area is between £90-£120, but keep in mind the material cost is not really a factor here. You have an installer who is qualified and should own a decent meter to get the very best from the available signal (not a cheap £10 beep meter) he will also have to own several types of ladders, tools, drills, have attended a working at heights course, have public liability insurance and finally and most importantly is putting himself at risk by climbing on your roof.
If you want to pay £50 for an aerial, then go to screwfix get yourself a cheap aerial and a £10 meter and then get on your roof and try not to fall off.
People need to realise that just because you can buy equipment cheap, tradesmen are not going to install it for a loss.
I recently paid £135 for my satellite dish to be moved onto my chimney and felt this was excellent quality for money as there was no way I was going to risk my life climbing up there.
Heating engineers, plumbers, electricians all charge a high rate albeit it is cheaper per hour that an aerial installer but most of there jobs last for days if not weeks and involve very little risk to themselves.
