I live near the top of the hill in Denton and lived in Bishopstone near Seaford previously (inc. BN - Before Newhaven) and have always been fortunate enough to receive a good signal from Brighton.
This summer I (and a neighbour) had problems with the Newhaven signal pixellating and dropping out so I have made sure that I only receive signals from Whitehawk by manually tuning the receiver(s). This process is detailed elsewhere and can involve only connecting the aerial after 80-odd percent of the tuning process has been completed (and then careful checking with transmitter details) - time consuming but worthwhile!
Weather conditions can still give the occasional problem eg last weeks mist and fog but generally tv life is good.
Hope this might help someone on highish ground east of Brighton......
