Mike B:
I had the same trouble, programmes not being recorded: it turned out to be because of a conflict between Sutton Coldfield and Waltham. I cured it by clearing the channels and then doing a manual retune of just the channels I wanted.
Re my recent problem, sudden bad reception from Waltham on my indoor aerial: my LG TV seems to have cured this for me: I did an autotune and found that, despite the aerial being aligned on Waltham, it had picked up all the channels from Sutton Cold field, in almost the opposite direction, except that it gave me the option of choosing Sutton or Waltham for BBC1 - I opted for Waltham so that I could get the East Midland news etc. Against all the odds, I'm now getting good reception on all desired channels including HD. Hope it lasts! Many thanks to those who have made suggestions.

The BBC used to lead the world in wireless technology but now they don't seem to bother . I agree with the comments above. Microphone technique was taken very seriously but it is clear that the BBC doesn't think it matters now. Some microphones used are noticeably less than ideal. I guess that money is all that matters these days.
Years ago the BBC used to think it important to use contributors who spoke clearly and intelligibly but now any sort of national or regional accept is regarded as preferable to "RP."

A very good article. Bits of it I didn't quite follow. The BBC is certainly in danger from those who don't like its approach, even when this is very unbiased, and from those who have a vested interest in suppressing it.

I, too have had problems with Waltham, BBC 1, after a long period when everything was fine. Sunday I had a come-and-go signal and Monday morning, 2nd. November, it was intermittent, with most of the time "no signal" shown. Could this be due to the fog?
Today, Tuesday, everything seems to be back to normal.

Until a few weeks GO, i WAS ABLE TO RECEIVE, FROM wALTHAM-ON-THE-WOLD
Until aCLIV few weeks ago I ws able to get good reception from Waltham-on-the-Wolds of East Midland news and the BBC News channel in HD, the former from a room aerial and the later from a roof aerial. Within a few days first one, and then the other channel disappeared. Other channels continued to come in well. I tried to do an auto scan to see if I could get the missing channels back, but they did not appear on the scan at all.
Has the power of Waltham diminished, or is anything happening to affect these programmes? I have not changed my equipment in any way.

Sorry about the garbled nature of my recent post. Some entries kept disappearing over the edge of the screeen

Thanks again for further comments.
I have a top-quality indoor aerial aligned to Waltham-on-the-Wolds and for several months I have had good reception on this, including HD, with my LJ TV with integral tuner. Then suddenly in the last 2 days Channels 54 and 57 have become unwatchable, while channel 49 gives perfect results. A signal-strength test reflects that situation. Although officially W-on-the-W is our best station, this is not so because we are on the wrong side of a hill for direct-line-of-sight reception. Perhaps the weather has played a part??
We have a 4G filter fitted, one which came free in the post, and I do not know of any 4G transmitters near us.
We also have an outdoor aerial aligned to Sutton Coldfield, which gives us a much better signal; I route this into a Humax recorder, but this does not handle HD.
We have the TV tuned to Waltham so that we can get the East Midlands programmes.
Until recently this all worked fine!
