Arqiva press release on Oxfordshire switchover | SwitchoversFriday 30 September 2011 11:02PM
Bicester
Like Simon, I have lost signals to channels I was picking up perfectly before switchover. Regardless of what I do, factory re-set, re-tune and re-tune I cannot retrieve Really, Dave, Food channels, which I now believe is C59. Even manual tuning there is nothing C59.
What has happened..surely this should all have been resolved before the final switchover. I don't remember having all these problems with Analogue. I would really appreciate some advice or if anyone knows if this is just a temporary problem. Thanks.

Hi Chris.SE, thanks so much for taking the time to give some advice, I really appreciate it. I have none of the items you suggest ( booster, skybox or video) I have a brand new BUSH Digital HD ready tv BTVD91216B, working perfectly before switchover. New digital outside aerial installed July along with the TV. Everything was fine until 2 minutes past midnight the 28th. I have re-set to factory default, scanned without the aerial in to clear any channels that may be remembered. Also unplugged from the socket, left for 30 seconds as suggested by one post, and re-tune again. Still nothing for channel 59. In fact I'm missing channels 20,43,44,45,46,49 through to 60 so of course 59 cannot be received. I've checked signal strength and it's all good except for the missing channels, even with manual tuning, it tells me no signal. I really don't know what to do next. It's so disappointing as I'm basically left with just the old Analogue and +1 channels, sky news and sky sport. Switchover has certainly NOT improved viewing for me, nor a lot of others so it seems. May it's me, but if the whole country is to be digital, then these issues should not arise. Any more advice or light you can throw on the situation would really be appreciated. Thank you for your time.

Arqiva press release on Oxfordshire switchover | SwitchoversSaturday 1 October 2011 7:22PM

Hi Chris, thank you for your further posting and advice, but I'm afraid like "Simon" partly plugging in the coax proved to hold no joy! I really don't know what the answer is. I have spent over £300 with new TV and aerial, and I'm not much better off than I was with analogue. Does this mean I will have to prescribe to Virgin or Sky to retrieve these channels I had working perfectly till the 28th. I don't want a satelite dish, but will I be forced to consider this due to the moving of these channels. I'm utterly fed up with it. But really appreciate the support you are giving - Hopefully you will continue to offer HOPE to both Simon and I..:-)
Thank you. Suzanne

jb38,
Thank you for the additional insight - that the problem both Simon and I are experiencing may be one out of our control. However, you don't mention what this " out of our control" could possibly be. Interesting as you say we are both located N/NE of the transmitter of 8/16 miles respectively. So do you have any suggestions as to what we might do next, who would we contact, will it be a known issue that will in time will be resolved by Arqiva, or Freeview? Once again thank you for your time and advice.

Hi Jb38,
Gosh you are helpful..really appreciate your time. With regards to choosing a frequency in the tuning menu, no there is not an option for this. As you say just the usual Mux channel number. If my BUSH set is one the of the less " inflexible type tuner " Would I be able to return it to the shop do you know, as IF this is a problem with the 'tuner' then surely shouldn't that be something down to TV and not being informed of the problems one may experience. My thoughts are, that all digital sets should be able to be tuned to receive all the FREE channels, providing available in your area, which channel 59 is.
If I can't rectify this, then I have a TV with not much more than the Analogue channels. I lost approximately 12-14 channels, including Dave, Really, Food Channels which are the ones I want. Not even virgin can supply me with what I want, as there is no fiber optics in my area, so I can't even pay for them. So frustrating, especially as it was all fine before the 28th. Any further advice, options to try would be so appreciated.
Signed gratefully yours..

Jb38,
You are really kind! Just checked signal for ArqB Mux Ch55 - Quality 27 Strength 0 - But have a perfectly good, clear picture. As for calling Bush, I agree with you probably not good as most will not have a great deal of experience. Perhaps my answer to your "signal" question may throw some additional light in my quest to resolve this..
Thank you so much.

JB: I look forward with great anticipation to the information you may uncover on Ch59. Strange that no one else seems to be suffering this problem. As you mention the possibility of the signals vanishing at a certain point, perhaps this is the problem. If this was the case, would this be down to Arqiva or the transmitters themselves. And how would it be resolved. For now, I shall be patient and wait for your 'posting' tomorrow, and hopefully with some hope of retrieving Ch59.
Thank you.

JB,
Hi, thanks for further info and advice. I have just checked signals for the two channels you suggest: Shown below green bar scale is Bad-Normal-Good. Mux Ch53 GOOD all green bars showing bar one - Mux Ch60 GOOD 100% green bars showing.
As for neighbours, will have to look into this one, as I don't know them that well, not been here that long. Interesting that no problems have been reported as you say South of the station. Why would power be kept low, restricted, as surely this would inevitably cause problems of receiving some channels in some areas. And if the power has been restricted, how can I find that out, I'm a complete novice at all this, so the time you have taken to help is really appreciated.
Thank you.

I have an outside aerial located half-way up the roof. I can receive all channels perfectly apart from Itv1,2,3,4 and 5. Even Russia today, but no ITV channels. Change back to analogue and the iTV channels are fine. Is this something to do with the way ITV transmit differently to say BBC? The digital box I'm using is a BUSH. I also have a tv with freeview integrated and exactly the same problem. I certainly hope this will not be the case at swithover, as I shall lose all ITV channels. Any help would be really appreciated. Thank you.
