Laura, I too am having problems getting the NHK World channel 507 on Sky (standard sky box) for the last 24 hours.
I just looked at the NHK World website and it says that they [NHK] have discontinued their standard definition service for the UK & Ireland from the end of 30th September 2011 and now they only show the channel in HD.

That is a real pain as now i cannot watch it. I am really not happy about that! >:-(
