Thanks to this site I ignored various aerial suppliers who told me I needed " NEW AERIAL "
This morning I retuned my TV and now receive most channels I was receiving before switchover with far better reception. Some of the minor chanels ITV3, QVC etc only 30% signal. I assume that Sept should bring further improvement. LARK STOKE transmitter

Thanks again BRIANTIST lets hope this will save some others the expense of a new aerial, there are several of my friends who have been conned even though they have used reputable installers who carried out a full surey. ?????

I have just bought a new freeview box to work with an old tv and it works ok.most chanels good reception.
I have also bought a new LG flatscreen tv with built in freeview HD etc. which only receives 20 tv and 11 radio chanels despite retuning several times,

I have an external ariel which is connected to both sets pointing to Larkstoke.

Any suggestions ???

Postcode WR117HQ' both sets connected to same aerial.
Old set is in bedroom with new freeview box, works ok good signal strength most channels received ok, channel guide very slow at updating information.
New set LG is in lounge, reception on the 20 found channels good, does not change much even with a booster.Signal strength on BBC channels show 89% without and 100% with, others channels show nothing The new set has a built in 5V antenna power button which switches off when I try to use. The new set does not pick up the same number of channels as the old set when retuned.

Aerial pointing to Larkstoke vertically arranged
Aerial splitter unpowered
"5V aerial power" not understood, switches from on to off on set up menu "Antenna power overload"
The only powered booster is fitted between the new TV and the wall socket (The problem set) no booster on old set which is ok,

Without the mains booster the the signal strength reduces and I can use the 5V aerial power option, but the signal is better with the mains booster than with the the 5v aerial power option, but any combination it does not receive more than 20 tv and 11 radio channels.

Is it possible that the full change over of Sutton Coldfield will improve the situation as there appears to be a 50/50 split to where the other aerials in my road are pointing.

Hi Steve, fairly sure that the aerial splitter is not powered, the mains boster only boosts the signal from the wall socket to the new tv.this is the best option for good reception.signal strength 100%
Without the booster the signal strength is reduced to about 60% and increases to about 80% if i switch the 5v on.
Have not had time to switch kit yet, will try after Sutton Coldfield swichover if no joy. I am begining to think that the aerial which has 4 outlet sockets attatched in different parts of the house and a fair few meters of coax without any amplification may be the problem. Appreciate all you advice hope I can resolve it. (not many programmes worth watching anyway Ha Ha ).

The booster? is a Labgear cable vision ltd. UHF single set amplifier. Type CM7253. It is powered and connects from the wall socket to the new tv.I used this previously with an old freeview box and an old tv, which gave me a reasonable reception on both analogue and digital, however the digital signal was not perfect, some pixilation at times with digital.
Have located the splitter (if you can call it one)which is in the loft. All four coax cables are twisted together and bound with electrical tape. this was done over 20 years ago when i had an extension built.

Hi Steve & Mazbar.
As you say, it a "Heath Robinson" job, no connectors, boxes ect, just twisted and covered with tape, one coax from aerial and four taped to it.
Obviously I need to sort this out, would you suggest fitting an internal standard 4 way splitter , or an amplified 4 way splitter .
I assume I would then need remove the booster connected to my new set altogether.
Is there any specification, make, model ect I should go for.I have 13amp power close to coax cables so no problem there.

Before I replace the splitter connections. Having done a check on the channels I am missing, I find that I am missing MUX A. Mux B. and Mux D. on the new set, whilst all others are a good reception, will fitting a amplified splitter overload the signal to the ones I am receiving.
