mark tewart: A Sky box is just that - a box. Its totally seperate from the TV as far as tuning, etc - its simply a source. You can run a Tv with a Virgin, Sky, BT and Freesat box, plus the internal tuner, plus internet all at the same time if you want.

The same goes for the Freeview box - again, its just a source, and since they are entirely different systems, that use different means of receiving (aerial vs dish), you can put both into a TV. Yes, you can only watch one source at a time, but there is no reason you cannot record on one and watch another.

I would suggest that you use the best connection you can to each one. If both have HDMI's, use them. If both only have scarts, then you will have to use them, but always use the best connection (HDMI better than scart). Get them set up, and then switch between each one via the 'source' button on the remote. Put the box you will use most as HDMI 1, etc, because thats the one that the TV will find first, and possibly will automatically go to it if the box is powered up.

Willie Bone: I totally agree about Long Wave - the costs per listener were over a 110 each a couple of years ago.

Willie Bone: I'm having this argument on another forum, where someone is asking for proof that Blu Ray looks better than DVD!

I still get asked it in store, and its very easy to show the difference between BBC1 and BBC1 HD. The ones that dont see it are generally older grumpy blokes who have got a dappy notion in their heads, and no matter what proof you show them, will refuse to admit to it. They can see it, but just dont, if you catch my drift.

As for DAB vs analogue - who cares? People are signing up for digital, be it DAB, streaming via the net, Deezer, Spolify, etc. The only people who worry about the difference are not buying new stuff generally anyway. The market decides, and they seem to like more channels, whatever the supposed difference in quality is.

Robert Jones: The standard advice is the one by MikeP above your comment - check your cables, because its likely to be your system.

D. Askew: Check each part. If the digibox works fine, is it the lead? If it doesn't, is it the box? And what is the box tuned to? If its the wrong transmitter, then its going to be a poor signal.

Kay Coleman: Ok, I think I know whats happening.

I assume that the 'digibox' is an HD box or PVR, since it would be pointless to have a Freeview box when your TV already had one.

It sounds like its been 'looped through', which is standard, and which should work if the box is off. But yours hasn't been set up properly, and you need to go to the setup menu, and find the part which tells the box to carry on passing through the signal when its on standby. It should show you in the manual, but you probably wont even need that.

Winter Hill (Bolton, England) transmitter

anthony: Read the top of the page - that transmitter covers about 2.7m homes. If your theory is correct and its faulty on very low power, then:

a) it would probably indicate that at the top of the page, especially if had been that way for 4 days.

b) A lot of people would notice. They havn't.

c) Would not all its muxes be low? You said that some are totally fine.

Instead, check your system - you've lost certain muxes, and almost certainly you have a lose connection or damaged cable. Considering how much advice you've given other people looking at your previous comments, its a bit surprising you'd hadn't thought of that.

Garry Muir: two guesss:

a) the transmitter does not carry that channel

b) you might need an HD tuner to pick it up

D. Askew: Your aerial is connected to your TV by a cable just 6mm wide, with lots of connections, with is battered by the weather.

So if its not the transmitter.....

John blake: You cant tune out 'interference'.

Its could be too high or low signal strength, or a loose connection. However, if its a regular problem, its most likely to be single source interference, which you can look up on this site.
