Below are all of Mike's postings, with the most recent are at the bottom of the page. It's such a shame that the advanced Humax/Freesat box with Freetime, isn't advanced enough to allow the easy scanning of the other 300+ non Freesat channels.
I have to keep my Foxsat HDR to watch Adult channels, "Taking Pictures TV., and many others.
Shame!

This is wildly out of date.
Yesterday, 5* and 5 USA, have been available FTA., and on Freesat, for some time.
They are available FTA on on Sky boxes with no account & no card needed.

Can I stop paying Sky and use my satellite receiver to get FreeThursday 7 January 2016 6:18PM

Kev: A stand alone Freesat receiver, with an HDD, like those made by Humax, is probably the best option, especially if used to that on a Skybox.
I don't know of any TV sets with built-in Hard Drives.

Andreas: Hi there.
Just pop along to your local Argos, or look at their on-line pages, and take a look at Freesat TV boxes ; one of those just connects to the wiring that you have from the dish, just like a Sky receiver.
I use Humax receivers with Hard Drives, that way, I press one button and record whatever I'm watching, or using the timer for stuff transmitted when I'm in bed or doing something else.
Other Freesat receivers are available from companies other than Humax, and many are also available for viewing TV., without hard drives.

John Murray: Yes, it will receive all the channels that are on the Freesat boxes, and more if one counts the Adult channels; only one is currently on the Freesat programme guide ( Babestation)
An extra scan is required to get them on a Freesat receiver, and it isn't easy on the modern Freesat boxes.
Freesat aldo gives access to BBC iPlayer, etc, which maybe available on the Sky box too. Someone else should answer that question!

I sincerely HOPE that DAB radio does not become the norm in this country.
We need FM radio for its CD hifi quality , which DAB definitely isn't, in fact all stations, bar the three or four DAB+ ones are in MONO!
Really it's quite pointless buying a DAB radio with two speakers, for now anyway.

Norway to start digital switchover.
I sincerely hope that the UK does not even entertain the idea of abandoning FM.
I am sure that many many people shall be very sore at having to scrap their expensive receivers, including me, with an Onkyo system.
DAB in the UK is far from being close to the CD quality of FM, and almost ALL DAB stations broadcast only in mono.
Only the few DAB+ Broadcast in stereosound.

I assume that Talking Pictures TV is now generally available to everybody using Freeview?.
I have a Panasonic DVD recorder ( actual DVD burning, not hard drive)
It can only receive and record standard definition Freeview signals, with Talking Pictures clearly showing on the EPG., and I recorded a part of a film to a DVD-R.

I have been trying unsuccessfully to receive Talking Pictures through my HD TV tuner.
My aerial is trained on the Stockland Hill transmitter; apparently it doesn't transmit Talking Pictures!
Not all transmitter stations transmit that channel, so that maybe the real reason why some people cannot find it on their channel list.
Luckily I have Freesat, so can watch Talking Pictures via that, though it's not on the Freesat EPG yet.
