By the way I am a retired electronics engineer so I am familiar with technical terms.
I have two Technosonic PVR 101 Freeview hard disc recorders and at my location in Haslemere receive a signal from the Midhurst transmitter that is nearly 100% in strength and Very Good in quality.
I realise that these were cheap and sometimes infuriating machines, but up until recently have behaved adequately. However over the last month or two some strange things have been happening.
Most days some channels are missing, usually 1 to 9 on Multiplexes 55 and 56. Other days just channels 3 and 4, (ITV1 and Channel 4 and possibly others) on Multiplex 56 are missing. Sometimes Multiplex 59 suffers the same problem. They can be recovered by performing a manual retune of Multiplexes 55, 56, 59 and the pictures can be received OK but bizarrely often the ITV1 and Channel 4 programmes cannot be recorded either manually or by the timer. Other programmes like BBC1, BBC2, and Quest etc. can be recorded without a problem. Very weird.
I have tried the following:
First Time Installation set-up without an aerial connected then with the aerial connected
Auto Tune without an aerial connected then with the aerial connected
Cleared all channels and carried out manual tuning
Unfortunately none of the operations have cured the problem and I have to manually tune once or even twice a day!
I am wondering if additional new information (e.g. some form of Meta Data) is being transmitted these days which my old receiver is unable to process and causing confusion. Before I consign them to the spares pile I would be grateful if you could throw some light on this matter.
Regards,
Mr Stuart Ponsford
