Radio for Schools that takes me back. I remember the programs with the acompanying books. Many a happy hour spent singing along and listening to the story. Our school had square wooden portable panels with 1 speaker in and a baker light knob underneath, they were plugged into what looked like a round 2 pin socket ad the knob turned to one of the 4 settings with a reassuring click.

This was in the infants school so I would be about 7 or 8 and it would be mid to late 70s In junior school we used schools TV but as you said it wasn't all that often, I used to watch more of it when I was off ill at home.

TV over the internet, so you have to pay TV licence and phone line rental and internet costs you might as well have SKY.

"The Internet was specifically designed to work if hit by a nuclear attack (it's peer to peer and decentralised), so it will continue to work if satellite are taken out as it a terrestrial network (although there is a "solar-system compatible IP" out there too)"

What about engineering work, faults at the exchange, floods etc these all take out the broad band in areas at the moment. We lost the internet for 2 days over Christmas due to a fault in the exchange, that would have meant no TV!!!

How long have some of the PSB channels been on Intelsat 907? Not much use as a back up unless you have a motorised dish.

Also they are encrypted in BISS so no use to any domestic satellite box.

I still can't see it being as reliable as an aerial and transmitter system, but then digital isn't as reliable as analogue was so if we are going down the quantity instead of quality path, and that seams to be the way of everything now then it would be the next logical step.

digital to the home is not as reliable, just look at the posts on this site. Glitching, poor reception, constant re-tunes, etc, etc, etc. analogue just worked and it worked for years.

I agree, everything that is on freeview should be on freesat. It would however be impossible to do it the other way round as freeview dose not have the capacity. Perhaps this is where TV over the internet would work best, to carry the channels that are not available to some, would help solve the problem of people that can only get freeview lite.
