++UPDATE++
I had some service problems I thought were related to the transmitter issues. After various attempts to resolve (repositioning aerial, changing leads, signalbooster) I accidentally found the solution to the problem...
The digibox is positioned under the TV and on top of a DVD. I found that moving it out from between these devices solved all signal issues!
Strange as it "worked there before" but possibly something near its position has started interfering with the digibox and/or some connection internally is intermittant.
In any case thanks for all the contributors here for their advice.
