Just found this website and hope you may be able to help with a long standing problem of periodic appalling reception from Bilsdaletransmitter on Freeview. I can see the transmitter at this location in South Middlesbrough(TS7)!! Last weekend was just the latest (pm27/7 through to lunchtime 29/7) BBC1 and BBC2 from Bilsdale (C34) were unwatchable due to pixcellation and frequent complete drop outs. ITV (C21) was perfectly OK. (Appeared that any Tx over c550MHz was affected, lesser frequencies were OK)Changing to analogue there was also poor reception with some ghosting and vertical bars appearing on the picture and popping and loss of Nicam sound at the same time as the digital signal completely disappeared This disturbance seemed to be happening in time with that on the digital signal. I have carefully checked all the appliances (and thermostats) in the house and found no correlation to the poor digital pictures.
My conclusion is that there appears to be a periodic bout of external interference that can last for just a few minutes or up to a few days and then clears. No one will ever admit publicly that there is poor reception in this area. I am now getting a good signal again on BBC1 and BBC2 - but for how long...?.
I have put up with periodic poor performance until now but with the impending changeover and the loss of the alternative analogue signal I want to get to the bottom of the problem and have it sorted.
