Below are all of Dave's postings, with the most recent are at the bottom of the page.I'm extremely surprised that 40.1% of new cars have DAB radios - I looked at some new Mazdas last week and none seemed to have it fitted as "standard"

An update on the situation with DAB and new cars -I was in a showroom the other day having a "browse" (my existing car is coming up to 4 years old and they sent me some interesting offers!!) -I asked the salesman about DAB radio in an upmarket model of a popular car - he looked blank and went off to talk to his colleagues -came back to tell me that it wasn't standard -but could be fitted to the new model at a premium of over £400 !!!! How many people are going to do that ??

Sounds too much like Maggie's hated poll tax -and look what happened to that !
Take a household with two working adults and 2 offspring living at home -earning enuf to exceed the £15150 each, but hardly a wealthy household -you expect them to pay in excess of £400 for a TV Licence ie the Beeb ???
Ain't going to happen!!

Take all the "foreign language" bits away ( eg S4C costs are outrageous for its tiny audience) plus all the minority TV and radio channels plus local radio/TV -concentrate on the main 2 TV channels plus one for children, 4 radio channels with "regional" cover provided by English language radio eg Radio Wales, Radio Scotland.
Continue with the full online presence. According to the above figures that gives ~ £33.7 M more than required.

Actually chopped the World Service on 1st run thru' -but saved far too much LOL
My point about Welsh is that there are supposed to be 500,000+ Welsh speakers -but in my personal experience, this figure includes people who know the odd phrase or too - I worked for a large Company in Cardiff with in excess of 200 employees mostly local to SE Wales and when we had a problem with the Welsh Language Society we couldn't find anyone on site who spoke the lingo !!!

Personally I don't see how they can guarantee a CPI increase on the license fee when the whole future of the BBC is currently under active debate.

I'm interested in this debate purely for its potential effects in in car radio -both our existing cars have "built in AM/FM radio/CD players" , not swappable by the amateur -assuming that not everybody is going to be in position to buy new cars for the changeover!! (and still very few new cars are offered with DAB as standard anyway) - how are we going to be able to receive programmes??
