Below are all of Tim Peel's postings, with the most recent are at the bottom of the page.Hi.
Does any body know if something is to happen to Challenge (BSkyB) on Freeview in the near future? My EPG for this one channel does not update after Monday 6:00am (next Monday, that is), and if this has happened in the past, it usually means a stop in transmission.
Do you have any up to date info. on Freeview?
Thnak you in advance. Regards,
Tim.

Thank you Brian - maybe they were just slow in updating/finalising their Schedules.
After losing Takeshis Castle twice through changes to Virgin 1, I at last thought I had got the program back again - I just hope it stays that way for a little longer!
Thanks again.

share: I have a number of PCs, and various DVB-T cards/USB sticks, and for all, I use DVBViewer for recording.
It will accept multiple cards, so if you allocate a tuner for each multiplex, in theory you can record absolutely anything at anytime, no matter how many 'clash'.
Recording is very good quality indeed, and there are other possibilities for streaming/playback etc. The only requirement is that the drivers are Microsoft compatable, ie must not be some 'custom' manufacturer's version!
If you use the Channel Editor from the drop-down menu, it will automatically state all PMTs, PIDs, etc. for each channel. Cost is still only 15 euros (about £13.50), and is worth every penny. I have been using it successfully for years.

Glad it worked.
Yes, not having a remote is a drawback, although a couple of remotes have had plugins written to support DVBViewer.
Usually when I tune/re-tune, I set the frequency for a particular mplex, the still press Scan Range. This is a lot quicker than scanning through multiple frequancies. This website has the frequecy details for all Freeview multiplex for each transmitter. For eg, here using Waltham, BBC ONE/TWO etc., is at 698,000kHz (which equates to frequency channel 49. ie [8 x 49] + 306 offset = 698). Scanning a range in DVBViewer of 698,000 to 698,000 pulls up all of mplex very quickly.

So sorry Mike/Brian, I am now totally confused as to what the alterations are on 17th August. I use PC tuner DVB-T cards which I tune as individual frequancies. IE I need to know which idividual Muxs I have to re-tune - not a complete re-tune as for a Digi-box.
It seems to have changed yet again from what was read last week. I understood the Mux 2 carrying ITV1, was to move to C62, where it will reside temporarily until October (at a lower power until October) when it will move again. The afore mentioned Mux 1 change appears to be completely new! Where exactly does Mux 2 end up on 17th, does it still carry BBC ONE/TWO/THREE/CBBC, and the 301 service, plus the new HD service, and will all this be at the higher power?
Does ITV1 Mux2 move as well, and or how long?
I am, of course, refering to the main Waltham transmitter (as I reside in East Nottingham, diectly overlooking the Trent Valley).
Thank you so much in anticipation of clearing up my confusion, and sorry for my inability to get the answer for myself.
Regards,
Tim.

Hi Mike.
Thank you so much for the info. - It really has been a 'minefield' of informatio tryng to piece everything together, so thank you for making things a lot clearer.
What I cannot understand, is Mux A not moving again, as I understood in October it would have to move to it's final resting place, accompanied by the power increase (currently kept at present levels through DSO this August).
I also take it, BBC2 Analogue doesn't disappear from Waltham until 31st, which is different from a while back when it was thought to go on 17th.
Thank you once again. Regards,
Tim.

Thanks Brian, that is what I thought from reading the above entry - it somehow then didn't impinge upon my mind that although the power levels increased, it doesn't say it will move again - ie it will indeed remain in the same spot.
What comes of not reading properly - sorry!
Thanks both Brian and Mike again for their ceaseless work to help get people like me through the changes successfully.
Tim.

Had no problems whatsoever with my DVB-T cards in the PC. At 05:45 this morning, was able to retune straight away into new location at C61, and found all BBC's output there (except HD),as Mike told me yesterday. Thank you for letting us know, Mike about a further retune later, to move BBC A yet again! - It all seems a bit of a mess alround!
Later Came to retune Mum's TV, and at first appeared to work (had manually just retuned in C61). Then, stepping throught the channels, the TV's software suddenly 'crashed' at trying Channel 4, and after that, could only receive sound, and Text, but no pictures, including the AOL Welcome screen. Despite two complete retunes for all frequancies, the picture has not returned, but just decodes the sound packets. It is a new TV (AOL 2290Fwt), and is Full Freeview (less than a year old). Any ideas? Do you think the signal strength is now just too much for it to cope with? There is an Amp. connected, but the lead has to cover a fair distance from source.
I have had to resort to reusing an old CRT TV type, plus STB. However, the STB had no problems in decoding the signals. I am at a complete loss, and thouroughly fed up!
Regards,
Tim.

Hello Andy.
Presumably if you are Nottingham City Centre (such as Victoria Centre Flats) you will be able to get both Nottingham's Transmissions, which are now switched over (and assumed to be high power now?), and Waltham's.
Being East of the City, we point our aerial at Waltham, but even before DSO at Nottingham, it was possible to pick up Nottingham's Signal. I use a PC and a Program called DVBViewer which will discriminate between the two signals.
However, my Mother's TV upstairs, also using my aerial, has no problems. I have a Wide-Band, multi-element, high gain aerial, horizontally polerized, and directed only at Waltham (highly directional).
Do you know what direction your aerial lies in, and where your main signal was being received from prior to 13th April (ie before Nottingham DSO'ed)?
Even if it is a new TV, are you sure it is able to cope with 8k mode transmissions (if aimed at Nottingham)?
