Tracey Loasby:

Quite understand about you not wanting to pay someone to check your aerial installation just yet, that's one of the reasons I've asked about the Signal Strength and Quality figures (or the Error count - set dependent) for each multiplex on your upstairs TV, these will give a better feel for what is going on, and maybe being able to offer some more detailed guidance.

It's impossible to say anything positive about the engineering work. Trying to get hold of appropriate people to get accurate information from Arqiva is no easy matter (rather than customer services type staff who may not be fully informed) and at present they rather have their hands full with the Bilsdale transmitter fire problem.
Works have been going on at a number of transmitter sites with new 5G installation preparations (that was going on when the Bilsdale fire occurred) and whilst no information has been made available (or may even be known yet) the cause of the fire may cause suspension of works elsewhere or slow it down, or maybe make no difference whatsoever to other transmitter work (it depends on the nature of the work).

If there are any changes to the information available, I'll certainly try and post the relevant information.

Tracey Loasby:

Sorry, forgot to mention, roughly how old is your aerial installation?

G Beddows :

Maybe never! Channel (LCN) 51 is carried on Local multiplexes, see Channel listings for Industry Professionals | Freeview
Waltham does transmit a Local multiplex, one of a small number of main transmitters that does, but generally the signals are beamed towards specific centres of population - see the polar diagram for it towards the top of this page, so it very much depends on your location.
If you live say to the SW of the transmitter and not very close to it, you are unlikely to receive the Local multliplex.
If you live to the NNW or ESE you are quite likely to get it.

If you provide a full postcode we can look at the predicted reception for your locale.

G Beddows :

Forgot to add, the Local multiplex at Waltham is transmitted on UHF C41. If you live in a suitable area you could try a manual tune on C41 (auto-tune may miss it if the signal is weak but just receivable).

John Robert Pilton:

You can use the Dish, but if you had SkyQ then the LNB is not compatible with standard satellite receivers and you'll have to change the LNB. Otherwise, connect up and do a scan.

Suggest you read several posts on previous pages with links to Arqiva and Freeview updates, but in particular see Bilsdale (North Yorkshire, England) Full Freeview transmitter | free and easy

If you are unable to get a signal from any of the temporary sites or relays, please provide a full postcode and we'll see if any further suggestions can be offered.

Mark A.:

A few typos there!
Also worth a mention that a lot of modern TVs have a built in satellite tuner, always check that out before buying a box!

And what's more even I misread what had been originally posted.
You can use a satellite dish to get FREESAT not Freeview !!

Ian Brown:

When you have lost signal, for whatever reason, it is generally never a good idea to retune as it generally just clears the correct tuning. Only retune if you suspect a fault on a set having eliminated other possibilities. Losing signal on all your televisions should tell you it's nothing to do with the sets and so retuning will be to no avail and you'll simply have to repeat all that when the signals have returned (whether the cause was due to fault, engineering or weather conditions).
There should be little reason to retune these days, the only time this is likely to be needed is if one of the commercial broadcasters makes changes to one of their channels and you'll usually be advised by on-screen messages or pop-ups.

If you still have no signal, please provide a full postcode so we can look at predicted reception in your locale.
