Peter J: I have a 2 sony hdd recorders HXD890 & HXD870 both connected to Sutton Coldfield. This morning on switch on they both stayed on UPDATE on the display even though software update is set to OFF. They are both now trashed completely. No epg no freeview picture. Channels are still present. I also notice that the on screen graphics for some functions have changed as if for another model. & a complete factory default reset had no effect. Looks like some ota disaster has taken place. Any suggestions gratefully received!

Peter J: Addition to my post above. Any graphics linked to freeview tuner has been changed to different colours.IE signal strength channel lists epg & only appear on screen 2 seconds then crash. Internal graphics Sys menu etc are unchanged. This suggests that the freeview tuner has somehow been corrupted. However as the machine sticks on UPDATE every few hours & doesn't switch off its. not much use & will have to be unplugged. My son has the same machine on an indoor aerial tuned to a local relay & this is unaffected. Hope this info helps whoever to solve the problem though I don't hold out much hope.

Peter J: Thanks for that Steve. Have tried & its still the same. Its the new on screen graphics I can't understand they look like they have have downloaded from somewhere & I always keep software updates turned off. I have e-mailed the details to sony UK to see if they have an answer but Ill not be holding my breath.

Peter J: With regards to narrow picture this occurs after the factory reset. to get full width back go into initial setup. select HDMI & change the normal setting to full. That will correct that particular problem. Lets hope Sony can solve the others!

Peter J: Good news folks. I have just turned on my Sony HXD 879 & 890. The correct epg is back & they are both working normally without me doing anything. Well done somebody!

Remember back over twelve months ago when someone transmitted something weird overnight & wiped out all the Sony RDR-HXD870,890 freeview recorders. (Blank screens strange epg? WELL ITS HAPPENED AGAIN My two sony hadr drive dvd recorders have been rendered useless as I presume have others across the country connected to main transmitters (I am on Sutton Coldfield) they did correct this problem eventually could you please get the powers that be to do the same again.

I have just recalled my old posts & last happened in July 2013.On a Saturday same as this time & it was corrected the next day. Sometimes lessons are NOT learned.

My two Samsung tellys showed sound sync problems from Friday night on all channels broadcast on ArqA mux channel 45 from Sutton.
My PVRs are in sync but seem to be struggling to cope with intermittent freezing picture. On the tellys the sound is 1 second ahead of the picture. What is going on.
