if I'm in the wrong place with this question. I'm trying to resolve a strange issue on my mum's dvd-recorder (Sony RDR-HXD870). On the EPG, all the Mux A (I think - ITV3, ITV2+1, 5*, 5USA, CITV, Quest, Bid tv, GOLD, ESPN, QVC) are there but there is no program info at all, i.e. no time slots, no names of shows, just an empty line against the channel name. However, the channels *are* there, i.e. you can watch them via the recorder and the strength & are both over 90%. It's hooked up to a Sony TV and the EPG is fine on the tv but the issue with the dvd-r means she can't set things to record (there's no point trying the manual timer set, trust me!). I'm doubting it's a signal problem so I'm wondering if anyone has heard of a software/firmware issue with this recorder? I've retuned with no ariel lead which cleared the but subsequent retune has not resolved the problem. Any at all gratefully received. Thanks.

jb38 : You replied to me a couple of weeks ago (3rd March), many thanks for that and for not responding before now. On the Sony box in question I have checked version no then updated the firmware as per the sony website instructions and checked that the auto update settings are correct. I've also forced a for . Still the problem persists. I'm starting to suspect the machine may be faulty? Anything else I can try?

jb38: Thanks again for the reply. It was running on version 1.65 and post-update it's on 1.7. I won't get a chance to look at it again until the weekend so I'll have a think about whether to mess with it further. As it's not my machine I wouldn't want to it completely, although the update I have done went smoothly and quickly enough. Does the factory reset initialise the hard disc as well, do you know? thanks.
