Andrew McGilton:

Further to that said by Stevensonln1, your new TV set will already have a DVB-T2 tuner incorporated so it will be suitable for the forthcoming transmission changes that will see the end of DVB-T transmissions and being replaced by DVB-T2 transmissions.

John Bayliss:

COM 7 and 8 from Rowridge are only available with horizontal polarisation, so an aerial mounted with the rods vertical will not receive those signals. Not everything on Freeview is polarised both vertical and horizontal. On main transmitters, it is usual for all the services to be horizontal whilst the smaller 'Freeview Lite' transmitters are usually vertical - but not always. Rowridge is unusual in that it provide the main transmissions in both horizontal and vertical polarisations, but the COM7 and COM8 services are only horizontal. Just look at the 'digitaluk trade' box below your posting, it will show the services available.

Note that these services will likely be replaced around 2020 as the 700MHz band is sold off to the mobile phone companies and UHF TV digital services are converted into DVB-T2 transmissions that will allow all channels to be transmitted using a narrower spectrum.

Note also that to get the COM7 and COM8 services you need a TV that is a full HD one with a built-in DVB-T2 tuner and not one that is described as being 'HD ready' as they do not have the needed tuner.

For us to assist you, we really need a full post code. That will enable us to examine the reception conditions at your location and advise on what action may be needed to rectify the difficulty.

Goodbye BBC Red Button!

GeordieLad:

Totally agree.

They should aim to entertain, educate and enlighten without any form of bias. They should report facts without the accompanying dross. They used to be good at meeting their Charter requirements, having an entirely separate News programme often followed by a discussion programme where politicians and others could consider the content of the news. You knew the news was impartial and you expected the discussion to be partisan. If you liked it then you watched it, if you didn't like then you didn't watch - its called choice. We don't get that these days, opinion is pushed out as if it were news - which it isn't. And it's not just the BBC either.

John:

As you have had your dish checked for alignment, etc then the likely cause is now limited to your equipment. It may have developed a fault.

If you can borrow a similar STB then try that to see if you still get the problem. It is more likely, though, that the recording system has developed a fault, maybe a problem with the hard disk itself.

To be able to offer any meaningful assistance we need a full post code so that we can investigate the transmission and reception conditions in your locality.

Derek Gill:

As you are very close to the Tacolnston transmitter, you may have too much signal. It is essential that the tuner input signal level is not too much, especially for HD reception. Check what your TV set reports for the signal strength for the affected services - but do not perform a retune.

The ideal signal strength is between 55% and 85%. If it is any stronger then you will need to fit an attenuator in the aerial cable behind the set.

Wendy Fullam:

Like Derek Gill, you may have too much signal. Check the signal strengths reported by your set but do not perform a retune. If the strengths are too high, over 85%, then you need an attenutaor to reduce that level. Search this site for 'too much of a good thing' for more advice.
