Shows you as having a very local repeater, which implies local problems. You can use same aerial but needs to be turned vertical. And shows only the "Main" Muxes.

If you plug your postocde in top right lots of other info clickable.

Are your neighbours having same problem?

Could it be a fault in your cabling?

Put simply, 8k is newer and better than 2k, and is replacing it. Which is tough if your box/TV can't cope with it.

Not sure if this is the right place but please move it if not!

I have for some time had trouble free free sat with an old Sky box.

Just acquired a 2/h Sky+ HD box. Plugged it in and screen says

"Updating system software. Do not disconnect from mains or satellite dish. This may take up to 10 minutes"

I know it's not been in use for some time so update not surprising I presume?

But it's been going at it for an hour.

I have not watched it continuously, but at ~30 mins the screen cleared, a Sky logo appeared, then it went back to update.

What should I do?

Tempted to powercycle - but it says not to!

Thanks Brian. Sat signal can't be that bad as I get perfect reception on all channels with the old box.

I'm using a CRT TV - but that can't be an issue surely?

Does the card in use have any effect? I'm using one provided by the seller.

Incidentally the dish, LNB and cabling was installed by Sky a couple of years ago.

I tried removing the card entirely and restarting. Seems to be doing the same but I will give it time.

Due to a disabled person in the house we had the right to a Freeview installation for £40 all in from the conversion arrangements.

Although this could easily and safely be done by climbing through a large window onto the central V of a double pitch roof, or with a ladder over the pediment wall, each of 3 successive visits decided it could not be done because of the rules they had to follow. Notably no step ladders; and no lifting ladders onto roofs.

So they settled for a wall mounted Satellite for the same price. Then lots more rules. And apparently a fair percentage get inspected later to check that it was done as said.

candle - I don't know specifically but suspect that your problem is that the nearby tx is blocked leaving you with a more distant one so weaker; and because analogue still on, digital signals weak.

Do others nearby have same problems?

I suggest you call your original aerial installer. He should charge little if anything to come and see what's up.

tom - did you remove the fascia plates and confirm they are connected to SOMETHING?

Apparently it uses some HUGE (3ft diameter) final transmission valves that are no longer made. BBC has bought all world stocks - 10 of them - and they last months to years.

I find it very hard to believe that modern man is incapable of making a big signal on 198 somehow!.

Is it true that DAB car radios will not work in Europe?

Graham - Why are you Wrekin? According to this you get twice the signal for S Coldfield. And your problem might be from adjacent channels in the 40s at higher power.

It says you need only a set-top ae. If none built in, try a wire coat hanger. - the famous "Sketchley Loop Antenna"
