I have always assumed that this sort of issue was determined when Sky was allowed to take over BSB, creating a monopoly.
Who needs who more? IIUC, if BBC stops broadcasting on Sky it will still be on Freesat?

tj harris - I think there will be a fair but not a vast number of "almost exclusively sports" Sky subscribers.
But many of them will have wives and children who do watch BBC

Clearly BBC has an interest in getting its broadcasts offered via satellite, and should be prepared to pay a proper price for the service of broadcasting them.
But if that can be done WITHOUT automatically making them available to Sky subscribers I can see no reason why BBC should pay anything to Sky. Rather Sky should be paying BBC a great deal to be allowed to include BBC channels in its service.
I simply do not understand the EPG issue. Does Sky have a satellite EPG monopoly? We have one TV on Freesat (NOT from Sky) and it certainly has an EPG. Where from?
I would certainly think that including BBC in an EPG was a very small thing compared to the benefit to Sky, who would certainly lose huge numbers of subscribers if they did not include BBC channels in their offer.

If BBC channels are available by satellite regardless of Sky I think BBC should be charging £100m for their programme data and right to link to it.
Though you are unfair about Shy's free boxes. That's how they get ther subs income, not a tax dodge!
And makes for a useful resale market. I've just bought a Sky+ HD box - 500Gb - for £60.

Mark A - IIUC no-one NEEDS to be on the Sky EPG as they can go on the Freesat one for very little.
BBC can simply say "Unless you list all our stations for free we are happy to go unlisted"

Have you tried switching boxes round to see if it changes anything?
Think I read somewhere that the 60 MINUS channels gives problems with some kit.

Les - it has been explained here that Sky DO NOT actually broadcast BBC channels at all. The BBC pays the satellite owners to do that.
All that is under discussion is Sky including BBC in THEIR EPG; as distinct from the Freesat EPG.
Seems to me that Sky gets more out of it than BBC, as it allows them to appear to offer BBC as part of their subscription service.

Stu H - Dunno for sure but doubt it. Sky box no reason to have DTV tuner.
It really can't be hard to mend/replace a coax socket. Or just solder/twist a bit of coax onto the wire inside.
