Speculation: is BBC three going to be replaced by BBC One +1? |Thursday 6 March 2014 10:19AM

BBC+1 is a splendid idea.
Regional news - just use London - or rotate them even.
Or a mixture.

DRY wood is a good insulator so not big deal - if a little unprofessional.
At 4 miles you may well be right about reason.
Does it work?
If so don't fix it.
If it is a powerful Tx 4 miles away you may not need an aerial at all. In London I do fine with just a fly lead connected to nothing.

Ian Edge - assuming that "mast" just means a pole attached to the chimney you have indeed been ripped off.
Worth a call to the local Trading Standards.
Or that Esther wotsit's TV programme Rogue Traders.
Or just a call to the company saying you think there must have been a mistake! Record it!

Why don't they design tuners to cope with strong signals?
It can't be difficult compared to digesting 64QAM ?

Mike B - it is within the scope of electronics to detect the strength of an incoming signal and attenuate it if needed. I can't see how it is so hard that it is not done routinely.
Mike S - I presume the TV is working and you can see the retuning etc. images from the box so that side works.
And you have checked all connections by removing and refitting.
And confirmed that neighbours are getting TV OK?
And done a factory reset of the box
And phoned the helpline of its manufacturers.
And taken it somewhere else to prove it does not work there either.
And borrowed another box and proved it DOES work at your place.
NOW buy a new box
I'm assuming you have a strong signal - you do not give address details to check

MikeP - there is a TV Channel with a confusingly similar name IIRC. Brian's name for this site is almost too well chosen and I'm sure a lot of people who find it think it in some way "official"
The continent is full of people watching UK Satellite TV. Sky acquiesces with this so I see no need to be precious on behalf of copyright holders.
Dimitris you will need a Freesat or a Sky TV box; a suitable LNB on your dish - which you may well have - and to point it in the right direction - instructions online if you google.
But I have no idea if the signal gets to you. The coverage has recently changed so old info may now be wrong.
Try an expats forum for UK people in Greece.

Your box will work anywhere where you have a big enough dish to see the satellite.
Without a card it will get the free channels. There is a thread here somewhere that compares freeview freesat freesat from sky etc.
