Below are all of Stephen Phillips's postings, with the most recent are at the bottom of the page.I got so carried away with my story that I forgot to say that you should look for your TV's make model number etc then either google yourself for spec. and manual, or post here if not clear on such matters.
Wiki has various info about naming terms but depends how old yours is

I could neither agree nor disagree as I can make little sense of it.
For example does "sados" refer to followers of the good Marquis or has it the Malay usage of a "buff" man?
Or is it an inadddddequate rendering of "saddo" ?

Susan I am SHOCKED by the gender stereotyping inherent in your assignation of such work to a male companion.
Looking for damage/dirt and wabbling connections or plugcycling are well within the capabilities of the gentler gender.
Obviously anything more advanced will need male skills though.

Mike T are you watching Whitehawk or Findon for BBC1/2? Whichever, you should have the other wherever your box puts "spare" channels". Is it better?
Are you using the same source for other channels?
If you always use your amplifier, try not doing. You may be getting overload.
Knowing your location would help the wise ones here. (Me Tonto)

Frankly I don't give a gone with the wind about BBC Local Radio to which I have never intentionally listened. I just know that MW tends to get to parts FM cannot reach and the rest are not available on a cheap tranny/car radio which is what the public mostly uses.
Are MW transmitters expensive to run? I can't see why modestly powered ones would be these days. We're not talking about 198Hz and metre wide glass globes no longer manufactured.

Hi gill2
Are we to take it that the TV reception itself is fine; just the noise is annoying? If not, ignore this and follow MikeP's wise advice.
But if so you may be able to work out the cause of the problem and mend it
Clearly your fat roof should go on a diet?
But if it is also a flat roof does that mean you have easy and safe access to it?
Just work out which bit is loose and screw, glue or tie it so it is not.

We are indebted to Mike P for an illustration of Muphry's Law.
"Arial" with penultimate A is a typeface
"Ariel" with an E is many things; notably a nymph/spirit in Mr Shakespeare's "The Tempest"
When I brought a Toshiba TV back from Singapore I knew it needed adjusting for sound separation (+/- Hz from the picture carrier) I phoned Toshiba UK who said they could do it, for a very low fee, at one place only in the UK, but that I would have to arrange shipment to/from Clapham, South London. About 2 miles from my home in Herne Hill
