BevB - You seem to have identified the likely problems, but hard to comment without knowing your postcode - and even that might not be enough if it covers a large area.
I don't think BT vision is the cure - isn't it just for add-on services? Not sure.
Freesat might be the way to go.

BKR - have you changed anything?
Where is your aerial and what do you mean by it being digiral?
If you have a masthead amplifier/splitter it may need to be powered from below by sending DC current UP the coax. You might have turned this function off on the lounge TV (knowingly or not) so the amp does not work until power from above.
Try removing and replacing all plugs - could be corrosion.

Jim - looks like you are using the weak signal from Llanfylin (confirm from channel numbers) not the much stronger one from the Wrekin. You should point just south of East; horizontal.

DE To receive HD TV you need both
A Screen which can display it, and
A tuner which can detect and convert the HD transmissions.
The standards for the tuner were only recently set, so a lot of TVs capable of displaying HD signals have inbuilt tuners that only do standard definition.
If that is you you need a HD tuner box
Unless the TV can be upgraded? Anyone know if this is ever done?

Sharon - cars should not give that big a problem so it sounds like the coax from your roof down is not shielding properly. If you have access you could test this with a bit running through the house.
Another possibility is a "masthead" or at least high up amplifier, which would strengthen the signal so the noise did not matter.
Could also be that your aerial has moved.
For any of these, a pro is best.

This place says you would be far better off using Fenton! Is yours a large postcode area?
Otherwise, do you have a decent rooftop amplified aerial?
No obvious reason why ArqA worse than B, but your aerial might be better at some frequencies than others.

Gus B - Satellite dish = Sky/Freesat
Freeview tuner requires pointy spiky aerial.
