Piddling 38-44cm minidishes cope poorly especially on weaker Eutelsat 28A channels on Superbeam covering western and central europe and the massive Europewide S1 beam as these are much weaker than regular Astra2 channels at 28.2degE.

Can I use my digital freeview box abroad and receive English chMonday 30 June 2014 4:03PM

sudeshbunger: in brussels you'll need a 60-70cm satellite dishantenna aligned with the astra 2 satellites/eutelsat 28a satellites @ 28.2degE hooked up to a uk freesat receiver, secondhand sky hd receiver or generic free to air satellite receiver. Sky + recording and playback only via subscription in the UK only. A freesat box or freesat+ recorder or generic free to air satellite box with pvr facility would be best for you. Astra2 and eutelsat28a carry english language uk channels.

Freesat boxes can be bought in the uk or online ie ebay. Generic free to air satellite receivers can be bought quite generally from most satellite dealers.

Steve P: Bigger dishes give a bigger received dBw gain on downlink from Astra 2/Eutelsat 28A channels especially the weaker Eutelsat 28A channels and the bigger dishes sized do work better when full of snow or in very bad weather especially 60-65cm dishantennae installed for Astra2/Eutelsat 28A.

Can I use my ex-contract sky digital satellite receiver to get Saturday 12 July 2014 5:57AM

James: whoever told you that is basically wrong;an 80cm dish for Astra 2 is better than adequate for Astra satellite use at 28.2degE and should not cause any interference issues with other neighbours dishes. At least you will get a far better reception in heavy rain and snow.

Nedbod : I agree with everything you say, the only services that should be on 24h a day should be Radio 2 and BBC World Service. BBC Radio 1 BBC Radio 3 and BBC Radio 5 Live should closedown at 12 midnight and BBC Radio 4 should closedown after the Shipping Forecast around midnight 40. BBC Radio 1 Extra and BBC Radio 4 Extra shouldn't exist at all. 24h broadcasting of all services is a waste of licencepayers money. BBC Local Radio should simulcast Radio 2 after local programmes earlier weekday nights and join Radio 2 on saturday nights after the local sports programmes have ended as they always did back in the day.

Zone 2 44cm minidishes are far better than 38cm Zone 1 minidishes in that they have a much bigger received dBW gain and have much better signal reception in bad weather over smaller Zone 1 38cm minidishes.

Anthony: I would suggest a 90cm-100cm dish for Freesat in Geneva the signal strength tends to weaken the further south you go and the reception results can vary enormously across Europe even as short as a few miles in the next town village region or country-go for a 90cm dish bare minimum at 28degrees East but if you want total rainfade free reception I'd suggest 100cm diameter dish at maximum.

Dave Lindsay: All other sd channels come in perfect no problems, the hd multiplexes are weaker and only transmit at 24kW erp which is notoriously difficult to receive, and if you cannot receive them satisfactorily on an old c/d group aerial, and theyre an old design that is just not cut out for receiving the newer transmissions and technical standards, then a replacement and perhaps an amplifier if you are in an area of moderate to poor signal strength will help to pull these extra services in. I am watching bbcthreehd now and reception is perfect, so it couldve have been atmospherics friday night due to high pressure fine weather, which is also expected this week.
