Anyone know why this transmitter has such a high power radiation pattern down towards the South?

Richard Cooper: It's all a bit of a mystery. The narrow beam that is aimed towards the South is pretty much all served by Winter Hill anyway ... so it seems odd that it is needed? I just have never been able to get my head around why it is so powerful toward the South!

Chris Barker: I half agree with you, but your interpretation of the coverage area is very off the mark. Have a look at the transmitter locations on the map above.

You say SDL isn't available in Northern England.

Have you heard of the Winter Hill and Emley Moor transmitters before?

Virtually the whole of Merseyside, Greater Manchester, Lancashire and Cheshire (certainly with a line of site) can receive coverage from Winter Hill

Ofcom announces 700 MHz clearance schedule 2017-20

The television aerial at my parent's place has been there ever since the start of transmissions from the Saddleworth transmitter (1969 I think) so that's 46 years and the aerial has never once packed in.

Very very rarely would an aerial give up due to 'age'; it's more about the physical state of it overtime.

Ceased broadcasting today -

Also means Key 103 on 103.00 will once again be available across much of the North East Wales coast

I have a question I hope someone could answer

Have two living rooms both with Sky Boxes but we have got rid of Sky today - turning to Freeview.

It looks as if the TV aerial from the roof has only one feed, into Living Room 1. Specifically, into the 'Aerial In' on the back of the Sky Box in Living Room 1

There's then a separate cable from the same Sky Box (either RF1 or RF2, both work) which I am guessing goes into loft box to serve all the aerial points in the bedrooms and Living Room 2 (I know this because when I unplug, all other TV's lose signal)

My question is how do I remove my Sky Box but keep this RF aerial connection working? I tried to just manually attach both aerial cable ends together (they are the right genders) but nothing worked - its as if it has to use the Aerial In/RF Out on the Sky Box but I'm unsure why, isn't it just a passthrough? If so why can't I manually pass through as in physcially connect the two cables without the set top box
