Adrian: Yes, as all BBC1/2 regional channels are able to be viewed on a Sky box anywhere in the UK, irrespective of whether a person subscribes to Sky or not.

Anyone thinking on cancelling their subscription can easily find out what they will, or will not, be able to view by simply removing the viewing card and running through the list of channels normally viewed. This procedure on "some" boxes being more accurate if the box is disconnected from the mains after having removed the card, the box being reconnected minus the card, said card being reinserted after checking the list.

Geoff: If the figures given for the strength and quality of the HD signal are correct, and its not the case of the reverse of, i.e: 30 - 40% strength / 100% quality, then intermittent reception at these levels is something not entirely unexpected as they are quite unacceptable. In order to assess the situation better, what levels are indicated on your SD channels?.

James Redman: ITV3 (10) is broadcast on the COM4 Multiplex along with numerous other programmes such as QVC (16) / Drama (20) / 5* (30) etc, if you are still able to view these channels? then ITV3 has likely dropped out through some form of glitch having occurred in the tuner.

Although the best way of overcoming this type problem is by carrying out a reset / retune on your TV/ box, however, "if" said device offers a manual tuning facility? another method which sometimes works without upsetting anything else (e.g: programmes set for recording) is by scanning the Multiplex in question, selecting the manual tuning mode followed (in your case) by entering then scanning C55 (Dovers COM4).

If though on the other hand you are unable to view any of the aforementioned channels, then COM4 is not being received for reasons unknown, as no planned engineering work is being carried out anywhere in the UK this week, nor is anything listed (as yet) against Dover on the RTI fault reporting site.

Geoff: Purely for information purposes, Waltham is indicating perfectly normal strength / quality levels in my area (Stamford) with the exception of COM5 / ArqA. Although not being line-of-sight with said station the problem is possibly down to weather related terrain conditions.

Brian Barker: Yes, as local channels are only broadcast by certain main stations, this in your case being from the Emley Moor (Kirklees) transmitter, Keighley town indicated as being on the very outer limits of reception from said transmitter, albeit with reception in a very patchy unreliable fashion, which of course is outwith your area anyway.

Andrew Cooper: Plus in addition to that said by MikeP. Signals received via multiple obstructions starting from around 7 miles out prior to your location are very likely to suffer from an element of being erratic caused by weather related issues affecting the reflective surface of the terrain.

Obstructions referred to seen by opening the undermentioned link.

Carl: The question has to be, have you mounted your new aerial on horizontal polarity in order to be able to pick up the COM7/8 multiplexes? as ArqA/ArqB on horizontal is only radiated at 50Kw, whereas its 200Kw on vertical.

As far as the ArqB signal is concerned, multiplexes are not necessarily always received at the same levels as each other, sometimes corrected by slight raising or lowering of the aerial if mounted on a vertical pole. However, a poor or no signal is inclined to suggest other problems such as can be caused by HDMI leads (if used) running to close to the aerial input coax.

By the way, although signal strength indications are never the same when measured on different brands of equipment , the ideal strength should be around 80% or so, quality aimed as being as near to 100% as possible.

Richard Sutton: On having studied your update re the situation with regards to C29, and especially your report on that picked up by your sons Toshiba TV using an entirely different aerial from your own, I am beginning to think along the lines that irrespective of that published, ITV1 regional news services is the only programme being transmitted on that particular multiplex, and if so, possibly because of the unforeseen chaos created by programmes broadcast (previously?) by this multiplex using the same EPG numbers as C25, meaning that viewers would have to select EPG numbers in the 800 ranges in order to view certain channels. Although I do intend to further investigate this issue.

As far as programme channels on one particular mux is concerned, its impossible for them to be geographically directed, as its only the aerial system used by the multiplex transmitter that carries them that can be beamed to favour certain areas, and which dependant on your location, "might" possibly be reason why C25 is received at a higher level than C29, as both transmitters radiate on 20Kw.

However that said, can you confirm the following. That on the previous occasion when you carried out a reset on your TV or Humax box prior to manually scanning C29, that the ITV regional news service was the only programme channel received, and that nothing was listed anywhere else including the 800 channel range?
