Harry: Yes, by purchasing the device shown on the link, but regarding your neighbours Sky box, are you in effect saying that both the RF outputs have failed? you having verified that they are actually turned on.

Mike O'Sullivan: Yes, but the point is though that "all" non-powered splitters reduce the signal no matter what the brand name might be, the test being to temporarily try the TV in the other room on the lead used by the main TV, or even just try by-passing the two way splitter by connecting the aerial straight into the extension lead, this slightly lifting the signal level.

Although neither test really simulates using a powered splitter which is always superior, although as aforementioned, its hardly worth the bother doing anything at this late stage as the situation will (or should!) be rectified on April 18th.

Mrs S Ede: Any questions involving a reception issue must be accompanied by a location being given and preferably in the form of a post code, as its impossible to assess the signal levels expected at wherever you might be located.

Joseph K: When you mention that you unplugged the communal aerial and tried the indoor one and still nothing, did you actually try a re-scan with the internal aerial installed? as if you haven't then you should try it.

David Oliver: Although not sure if you are actually enquiring for yourself or not, but you can download the PDF manual from the link, its the bottom one marked 4.35mb and its page 19 you require to look at.

Joseph K: Another thing you should try is, rather than keep carrying out auto-tunes do a manual tune on Emley's BBC Ch47, and if anything comes up store it, then carry out similar on ITV (Ch44), Emley Moor being located at 13 miles away.

This is purely for a test, as although you have said that nothing was picked up its likely that the signal "is" there but sitting at just under the threshold level for reception, manual tuning always being more successful in these type of situations.

By the way as far as manual tuning is concerned, on most equipment as soon as you enter the channel number you intend to scan into the box the signal strength being received on that channel should start indicating before you scan it, so you could make a note of whatever is seen then enter the ITV (Ch44) and likewise noting whatever is seen, giving an update on results.

I did also notice that as Ron Lake has touched on you are surrounded by local relays, and even although the terrain (as shown on this site) indicates a clear path between you and the Keighley relay (@ 9mls) the actual trade view reception predictor indicates reception as only being possible from the commercial multiplexes, and with this being poor on a permanent basis.

Tony: If you know for certain that there hasn't been any problems with your mains electricity supply (temporary low voltage) or even the socket you have the Sky+ box connected into, then I would be inclined to try a new power lead, as although the dishes LNB and coax leads to still remains as the common factor with any box that might have been tried, should anything be amiss in that area it shouldn't result in the indications you have seen.

Mike: Thanks for that update and pleased that the firmware update appears to have solved the problem.

I would be obliged though if you could let me know the model number of the Samsung TV involved, this mainly for notebook purposes although I would also like to check the detailed reason (technical) for the update being necessary.

Mike: Yes, thanks for that, and I am sure that your info will be of considerable assistance to anyone else with that model should they experience a similar problem, me having tagged this fault against the manual for that set.

Harry: Yes, that's correct regarding the eye being inoperable via the external modulator, but when you refer to RF2 being broken are you meaning there is no RF output from the socket or are you referring to no power for the magic eye even although its turned on? or are you maybe even meaning both have failed?

You might have already done this, but for test purposes have you tried your neighbours second set (complete with eye) sitting near to the Sky box? being coupled into same with a normal jumper lead.

Another test connected to the above being, that if the second TV was positioned near to the Sky box and its RF2 modulators output wasn't picked up on the second TV during an analogue scan made on it, then if this second TV is also used for viewing programmes other than just Sky via the coax link, then can these "other" programmes still be viewed on the second TV via the boxes RF2 output? as if they cannot then that could indicate something as simple as the connection at the back of the RF2 socket having a bad solder joint.
