PD: Well, you do not appear to be in an area with a surplus of signal strength and I suspect this is the main cause of your problem, as Bilsdale ( @ 17mls / 150 degrees) is only transmitting on low power until next September with Mux C on Ch27 only being on 6Kw, and so its unlikely you will be receiving it at much above the reception threshold, with this dipping under at the slightest pull on the signal.

I did suspect that your problem could possibly be caused by an RF modulator in the Toshiba, but as far as I can gather it doesnt seem to have one so that can be excluded.

I know you say that each device has its own feed from a wall plate, but is this just in the form of a passive splitter? as its likely that it will be unless that is you have a booster / splitter in the loft or wherever.

Should this prove to be the case then the only way out of the problem is to purchase a two way powered splitter and feed it from one of the wall plate outlets, as this will give each device total independence from each other as well as giving the signal a slight boost.

As regards to the splitter, its sometimes easier to purchase a four way device and just leave two outputs unconnected, as there is a large range of four way devices of about 10dB gain or so at very reasonable prices (£12.00 or so) over what you will see when looking at two way devices in places such as Argos etc.

A Pointer: I have my doubts about the accuracy of the report made by aerial person, although as you haven't provided your post code then I cannot verify this one way or the other.

But Freeview boxes do vary in sensitivity from each other, this being why one brand will work where another wont, but with the common factor usually always being that its in an area with poor signal strength, as this is where these differences always show up.

If you come back with your location (pref: post code) it will make it easier to supply further advice.

PD: Re:-powered splitter referred to, this is the link to one I can personally recommend, as a friend of mine has been using this for over two years now powered up 24/7, and indeed I have also been using one myself 24/7 for over 6 months now and with its casing being at minimum temperature, barely warm! (unlike some types)

viv jones: In normal circumstances yes it should and it was something I considered, but because the Sky box has twin tuners the modulator "might" be straddling both their outputs if you haven't set the box to record anything, this why the scart swap, then if nothing changes followed by the dish feed swap is really the best way to verify the cause of the problem.

kim: I assume that you have set the Sanyo on analogue? that is if its a dual standard Freeview / analogue TV.

kim: Meant also to say, carry out your tuning exercise first without the eye being connected in line with the TV.

Charlie paterson, Sr.: When you say a cable, are you referring to a co-ax lead from somewhere or an actual cable TV connection?

And when you refer to channels, are you meaning analogue TV channels and not Freeview ones? as if so you will need to provide your location (post code) so that the signal levels expected at your location can be checked on.

Richard: Its not anything to do with Sky as they cannot stop you from viewing normal channels, try pressing "Services" then 4 - 6 and see what the signal / quality level is indicating, as your dish might have been blown slightly out of alignment.

viv jones: Further to the problem you are experiencing, should this fault show up again later on immediately switch the Sky box to standby and observe if SAT1 vanishes, as if it doesn't its the TV at fault, and an obvious test I should really have requested that you try right from the start.

Its just that I was having a check at some technical aspects of your set, and although I didn't see SAT1 as such being listed in the error codes I did notice that the power management board can be problematic in that model, this resulting in various odd symptoms being observed.

Another thing you could also have a check on with your ear near to the set (volume turned off) is whether or not you can hear the internal cooling fan running, as that set seems quite critical to overheating.

Stephen: Quite simply, an Octo LNB is the answer, as a satellite receiver sends polarity switching instructions (voltages) to the LNB and so it cannot be shared with another receiver, there is a gadget you can get (stacker) that allows this, but as well as being costly its very critical in operation, so I never advise its use.
