Below are all of jb38's postings, with the most recent are at the bottom of the page.Debbie: Yes, that's simply because that these programmes were still stored in the tuners memory and the only reason you could not see them was because of a technical fault at the transmitter, of course if you had carried out a rescan then you "would" have required to do it again before you could have picked them up, the reason why rescans should never be carried out as a matter of course just because a blank screen appears when certain programmes are selected, as the TV or box never (or very seldom) ever loses them.

marilyn harding: As you have moved both the TV and Freesat box then when you press menu on the Freesat boxes remote control does this result in anything at all appearing on the TV screen? because if not then check the connection between the box and the TV as you might have accidentally used a different input socket on the TV over what its "input select" had been previously set on.
Just out of curiosity, did you extend the cable from the dish? or did you already have a satellite feed in the other room?

diane: If you have not altered anything on the Sky box that feeds the various rooms via its RF2 output, then if all you have done is to purchase a new TV it has to be set on "analogue" (not Digital) and a retune carried out so that it can find the Sky boxes RF channel, when it does remember to press "store" or "save" because unless you do it will be lost again as soon as you go off the channel.
By the way, I am not quite clear with regards to whether your new TV is a Sony or a Bush? as you mention both, not that this matters anyway as the information given covers any TV.

ben: Although you might well have seen the blanket term "no signal" warning but are there any levels at all being indicated on the boxes signal level check screen using the undermentioned procedure?
1:- Press "Services" on your Sky remote control and you will see the main menu with "Options" highlighted.
2:- Highlight the Settings menu using the right arrow button and press select.
3:- Use the left / right arrows scroll to "Signal" and press select, the grey bars displayed will show you the strength of the signal to your Sky+ HD box.
If the strength / quality is being indicated then it "has" to be around 55% minimum to resolve a picture.
Were you also requested to try swapping the two LNB inputs over? because if not try that as LNB1 is the main input used when viewing and will display the signal warning seen if anything is defective on that input.

Keith: Thanks for the update and pleased to hear that the replacement box plus the eaves mounted loop aerial seems to have cured your problem, although I do have to say that its not necessarily always the case that your old box had a definite fault as such (in general terms anyway) but was just less stable than your replacement, the reason for this being the possibly of it having had minor alterations (addition of one or two components) made to its PCB circuitry to improve performance, the problem with manufacturing changes like that being that they are not always documented very well in the service data of well known brands such as Sony / Panasonic etc let alone Vestel who can have three different PCB variations under the same model number (T835 chassis) albeit admittedly that this is known about by service depots but not necessarily the purchaser.
Of course this is neither here nor there, as the main thing is that you will not now have to sacrifice the convenience of using a Vestel's excellent menu system for the sake of purchasing a more stable device but with a somewhat less user friendly system, which regrettably to say, as used by Humax devices.

farmgirlj: If the post code that's been entered is that of your daughters, then unfortunately the signal levels expected at wherever she might be located cannot be assessed as the entry made in the box has contained disallowed characters, likewise DUK's checker rejecting them.
However as far as boosters are concerned, its sometimes a safer bet to purchase a variable gain type such as sold by Argos. link to same below.

Keith: Also meant to say, that the only reason I mentioned about the possibility of your box being basically the same but with a minor addition to its printed circuit board (PCB), was because of you having observed that the firmware on the new box was exactly the same as on your old one.
Of course additions made in this way are quite commonly experienced on all brands of equipment, the give away always being that if a PCB is carefully inspected on both sides and a component is seen soldered onto either the track side of the board, or alternatively is seen piggy back soldered onto another component on the main side of the board, then this is "always" done because a problem has been experienced with the value of the component chosen by the designer.

Simon Firth: You are located at approx 22 miles away from Sutton Coldfield transmitter which is also indicated as being at an angle of 315 degrees from your position, and so whether or not the new building will have any effect on your reception depends on two factors, the first being concerning the location of the new building in relation to the angle that the signal is being received at, and secondly, should it be clear (angle wise) of the first then whether the signal you receive is only managed by a strong element of signal reflection attached to it and which the new building has blocked, as in many cases this applies albeit that a viewer might be totally unaware of this fact.
That said, if you are only referring to a very recent loss of these programmes then its unlikely that the new building is the cause, that is unless the construction team are super fast workers!
Go into your TV or boxes tuning menu and enter mux Ch46 (ITV / Ch4 & 5) but do NOT press search or scan, because if the signal is there it should indicate a level, note whatever it is then change the channel number entered to mux Ch45 which is Sky news / Pick TV / Dave etc and check the levels shown there, then finally changing the number again to mux Ch43 and comparing its level against the other two.
Or you could just carry out a factory reset followed by an auto tune, or ignoring the fist if your TV or box offers a "first time installation" facility.

Logomage: As you are only located at just over half a mile away from the 400 watts Bromsgrove relay transmitter, then unless there are any major obstacles in the way between you and it the signal you could be receiving might be at about an equivalent level to a person at about 4 or so miles away from a 25Kw transmitter, and so just purely for a test try using a set top aerial of the non powered type and give your equipment an auto-tune whilst using this, although this preferably done after having carried out a factory reset, or ignoring a factory reset if "first time tune" is an option.

Claire Thompson: Freesat recorders are exactly the same as Sky+ or Sky+ HD boxes insomuch that twin inputs are always required for them to operate correctly, and in your situation about the only thing you can do is to go into the set up menu and change the dish setting to "single feed" operation, as doing this will allow a limited amount of flexibility as far as viewing one programme whilst recording another is concerned, the limited part being that both programmes have to be on the same signal polarity and not one on vertical and the other on horizontal.
Of course you will know if you are making a mistake when you are selecting a programme to record, as either a message will appear on the screen or it will just reject your choice, unfortunately there is no way around this problem.
