Andy: Taking it that you have verified that the sat box you are using on that outlet is OK, then I would unscrew each "F" connector in turn and check to make sure that a single strand of the braiding hasn't shorted onto the inner lead, or if you have an ohms checker just try that across the plug making sure that the meter is set to its lowest ohms range or you might get a false reading. (nothing should be indicated)

Admittedly the No4 outlet on the LNB could possibly be faulty, but its extremely unusual for this to happen.

ross walker: The eye shouldnt need to be connected into the TV to stay on, try it into the Sky boxes RF2 output and see if it stays on doing that "without" coupling the co-ax into its output.

ross walker: Well the 9 volts or so that operates the LED light simply gets this via the Sky boxes RF2 output socket and so it does "not" require anything to be plugged into the eyes output for the light to work, so if its not lit then there has to be either a short or open circuit in evidence, this is why the standard test is always to try it straight into the Sky box to make sure its working in the first place, as these are notoriously erratic devices. (what name / model is printed on the device?)

That said I would forget about that side of it just now, as your main concern is not being able to pick up (or tune it) the signal from the Sky box and which "might" be caused by a problem with your extension cable, this why by far the easiest way of verifying if this applies (or not) is to temporarily site your Sky box near to the LG and use a co-ax jumper lead between both devices aerial sockets, then carry out an auto-tune on the TV whilst its on its "TV" input, this selected via its remote controls TV/RAD button, and if it does pick it up making sure you select "store" or it will vanish again when the TV is turned off.

Remember, if you do try the Sky box next to the LG you do "not" require any dish input, just press services so that if the LG picks it up something will be seen on the screen.

Gavin: With regards to the booster query, its impossible to answer that question without knowledge of your location (pref: post code) this to enable an assessment to be made of the signal levels expected at your location.

That said though, can you recover from the blank screen if you select a channel? or if not can you get access the menu? as if you can, then go into the tuning menu / signal check indicator to see what level is shown along with the Mux channel involved, as even if the signal is too low to resolve a picture its level will still be indicated.

The other point is the method you have used to feed each of the TV plus the link to the Sky box, as it should be done via a multi-outlet (x6) powered splitter.

Rev Derek Hollis: Well if you are indeed receiving from Sudbury then reception of the multiplex transmitter that Yesterday etc is on (ArQB) is not predicted as being possible at your location until next June, as its presently transmitting on very low power (2.2Kw) on a temporary basis until then before switching to high power operation. (100Kw)

To verify if you are receiving from Sudbury and not Sandy, provided that you haven't carried out a re-scan to try and recover the channel, something that should never be done!, select EPG12 and go into the tuning menu / signal check area and observe the mux channel number shown, if its Sudbury it should indicate Ch63 whereas if Sandy it will be Ch48.

However, irrespective of where its coming from its just likely to have dipped under the reception threshold through normal atmospheric changes, the attenuator on your aerial system exacerbating the problem, which of course you cannot really do anything about if the attenuator isn't adjustable, I will say though that numerous people have problems trying to receive programmes on both ArqA & B, and many of them unlike in your case, are actually predicted as being able to receive them.

Dave Lindsay: Well I suppose that possibly confirms why DRG are predicting Bilsdale as having the edge over Emley, I do realise that Megalithia is quite a handy tool for terrain checking etc, but I personally find it a bit of a bind to use with the amount of conversions involved before you can get the results, which up to a point generally reveal what was suspected in the first place.

I cant see the link you refer to though!

Becky: Although very commonly done by many, but you should always try to resist the temptation to carry out a re-tune if some channels are found to have dropped out, as 99% of the time they are still in the box but just under a level that can give a picture, all re-tuning does is to scrub them from the TV / boxes memory making it necessary to have to carry out frequent re-tunes to recover them again.

However regarding your problem, are you sure that you have plugged the leads into the correct sockets? and not that you have accidentally connected the output lead that goes to the TV's into the boosters input rather than the aerial.

Other than that are you sure that the booster is still powered up?

ian m: Its possible that you are suffering from single frequency interference from either the high powered Sandy (Anglia) transmitter or maybe even from Sheffield, as both mentioned use Ch24 as does Nottingham
for ITV1 etc, there really isn't anything you can do about this as the problem will vanish once conditions change, that is provided your aerial is mounted vertically as well as you mention, facing towards Nottingham.

Another thing that can do it is if you have the aerial going through a device with an RF modulator (e.g: Sky box / VCR etc) and its analogue output is tuned to Ch24, but as that would permanently block your digital signal and you say the problem comes and goes, means this is not likely to be applicable.

ian m: Albeit this suggested as a temporary measure and might not work anyway because of Waltham being horizontally polarised, but you could try carrying out a manual tune on Waltham's ITV1 on Mux Ch54 as you might pick it up on the near rear of your aerial, as Waltham is shown as being possible to receive at your location.

If you did try a manual scan and observed some channels being picked up (dependant on equipment used) they would likely be pushed up into the EPG's 800 ranges, so you would have to check up there for them.

roy: Taking it that the second TV being used is a UK model and not an European one, the problem you mention is nearly impossible to be caused by anything except from the device that is supplying the RF signal.

Try temporarily connecting the Sky boxes RF2 into the aerial socket of the TV that is likely to be sited near to the Sky box and connected by a scart lead to it, then set that TV on analogue (if dual standard) and give it an auto tune to pick up the Sky boxes RF signal, this obviously for purposes of verifying if the RF from the Sky box contains audio "if" you don't have a second TV to use as a test.

This said though assuming that you have verified that the second TV's audio works on other than the analogue channel being used for picking up the Sky box.
