Lynne: Did you try carrying out a "first time installation" procedure on the problem TV rather than just auto-tuning it? first time installation also being called "factory reset" / "default setting" or some similar description dependant on brand.

Sometimes this problem can be rectified by carrying out an auto-tune but "with the aerial removed" for the purpose of blanking out the channels already stored, this then being followed by reconnecting the aerial again and carrying out a second auto-tune.

jacquicousins: Although a form or reset can be achieved on some of the older Samsung's by pressing and holding down (for about 15 secs) the exit button on the remote control, your model would appear to be a later and even less user friendly version than the original models.

You should try entering the "plug and play" menu again by selecting "menu" then "system", should this result in "plug and play" being seen then select it, if though you want to ensure that the tuners memory is completely wiped out before the P&P auto-tune starts then remove the aerial prior to this taking place, then once that it has and which will likely result in a "no channels stored" or similar message being seen, reconnect the aerial and then repeat the procedure.

It would also be of assistance if the model number of the device in question was known.

Merle: The easiest way to reset a Sky box is simply by disconnecting it from the mains supply "whilst its sitting on standby" and then waiting about 30 seconds or so before reconnecting it again, but though the content of any advice given is entirely dependant on the nature of the problem you are experiencing, and so if the reset does not cure your problem then further and more detailed info is required.

mark winters : Although you might well be getting the same signal on both channels but are you purely referring to the strength? because the quality is far in a way more important than the strength and what you have reported is inclined to suggest that the quality is erratic, should this be the case then I would advise check with a neighbour or whoever to find out if they are also experiencing similar problems, because if they are then the cause of the problem is outwith your control.

gemma: If your other TV did not display the retune caption at the top of the screen then its operating system is most likely programmed to carry out regular automatic channel updates, because this caption is only transmitted on Film 4's original location on the COM6 multiplex and which is for a limited time only before it vanishes.

The "first time installation" should normally have rectified your problem and so its a bit strange that it hasn't, however try removing your aerial connection and then carry out an auto-tune without it as this should blank out anything stored in the tuners memory, test to make sure that it has by reconnecting the aerial followed going into the programme guide and which should be blank with a message indicating "no channels stored" or "no signal", should this situation apply then carry out another auto-tune and check if this procedure has cured the problem,

mark winters : Well that somewhat clarifies the situation as far as indicating that the problem is basically outwith your control.

That said, although I will agree that moving the aerial outside is very unlikely to result in any improvement to the situation, but though what might do is by moving the aerial to the left or right of its present position as sometimes this action results in a bit error rate improvement (quality), and especially so now you have described the locations involved in relation to that of the transmitter, as its rather obvious that the signal being received is via an element of diffraction (signal bending) and possibly reflection and the type of situation that generally results in reception being vulnerable to changing conditions, this not necessarily affecting all mux channels in exactly the same way because the signals received by the aerial can vary slightly in angle.

florence: If, as it would appear, you are connected into a communal aerial system then you should really have checked with a neighbour or some other person local to yourself before having carried out the retune, as its possible that others may well be experiencing similar problems to yourself if a fault has developed in the aerial distribution system.

However, you having retuned your TV has created the situation whereby you will have to repeat this operation (on possibly more than one occasion) in order to recover the channels that have been deleted, otherwise they would simply have returned of their own accord.

Hannington (Hampshire, England) transmitter
Friday 30 August 2013 12:02AM

Fran: An engineering notice with regards to Hannington and possible interruptions to service over the next week is seen to immediately precede your posting, albeit that it was posted on the Aug 27th.

However, it would have been prudent to have made one or two local checks (neighbour etc) before having updated anything on your installation, as others will likely be experiencing the same difficulties as yourself.

If your system has been working OK prior to the problem mentioned, then I would be inclined to bide my time and see if the situation improves.

KMJ,Derby: Although what you have mentioned does indeed apply to the Huntshaw Cross transmitter, however Sophies 8.31am posting from the Westward Ho caravan park refers to "appreciating that engineering work being carried work on her local transmitter" and which to me is the Westward Ho relay, but I dont see this being mentioned on either of the engineering notice boards except for Huntshaw Cross, and of course Mark Winters specifically mentions Westward Ho's Ch25.
