Johan: Unfortunately Google Earth is restricted to covering Pindale Road and not Cave Dale, and so in this case that facility cannot be used to assess the situation.
If you have aligned your aerial to that of the others seen on the rooftops then on the face of it that would appear to be OK, but though when dealing with a signal from a low powered transmitter such as Hope, and especially when located in an iffy area, then the aerial really requires to be peaked on the signal, although the fact of you receiving the ITV channels rather indicates that it cant be too far out.
As far as the signal strength check is concerned, this is accessed by going into the TV's set up menu and selecting DTV or DVB tuning, this then followed by selecting "manual tune" and entering C28 into the box but NOT followed by pressing search or scan, as on most equipment if any signal is being received it will appear on the strength / quality bars.
That said, although most TV's or boxes offer a manual tuning facility there are a few around that doesn't, and in that case this procedure will not work.
Two points I would like to know. (1) when you refer to an aerial with a signal booster are you meaning that the booster is integrated within the aerial or is it positioned elsewhere? and irrespective of whether integrated or not what dB gain is the booster rated at.
(2) Numerous trees are seen in the area referred to, is your aerial facing into same?

Faraz: If the box in question has been disconnected from the mains and its LNB input feed being swapped over with one used by one of your other boxes that's known to be OK, then if when you power the box up again and the result of its "searching for listings" is another "no signal" message then its almost guaranteed that its internal power supply has failed, something not exactly unheard of in older boxes.

Faraz: In addition to that said, prior to carrying the out the aforementioned check that the boxes LNB settings are as below.
Procedure:
1. Press sky followed by services.
2. Highlight "System Setup" and press select.
3. Press "0 then 1 then select".
4. Press select again to access the LNB setup screen.
5. Press the red button to re-set the default settings.
6. Using the up/down arrows, highlight "Save New Settings" and press select.
7. Press select to confirm that the settings have been reset.
The correct settings are:
- 9.75 for the low frequency.
- 10.60 for the high frequency.
- The LNB power supply should always be set to on.
- The 22KHz Command should always be set to on.

Jan Knight: : Even although Sky and Freeview are two completely different systems the fact of you experiencing failures on both when connected into a communal dish / aerial system suggests that the problem is with that side of the equation and not in your flat.
I would check with a neighbour, as they might also being experiencing similar to yourself.

Caroline: Your TV should not really be required for any purpose other than to play back what you have previously recorded on the DVD (or VCR) as the Panasonic recorder mentioned is a Freeview device capable of storing its own channels, that is "if" you have the aerial connected into the recorders "RF in" and with a coax jumper lead from the recorders "RF out" going into the TV's aerial socket.?
Should you already have the two devices connected in this fashion then have you as yet carried out an auto-tune on the recorder to load all of the channels available into the device? this achieved via the recorders function menu / set up.

Iain Fraser: Quest is on the same multiplex as (10) ITV3 / (20) Drama etc which from Rosemarkie is C43, can you receive those two programme channels?

Iain Fraser : By the way, should the elusive Quest fail to return even after having resorted to manually scanning C43 then the only option left is to carry out a "factory reset", other alternatives to this being "first time installation" or "default setting", all methods wiping the tuners memory clean of everything stored in it.

Bob: Re: R4 Wrekenton, this 603Khz AM transmitter is certainly rated as being 2Kw on my TX info sheet along with BBC Radio Newcastle on 1458Khz.

Dave Lindsay: Yes, you are quite correct! I just noticed the error when your posting querying the info came in, the error caused by not having altered the height referred to.
Of course that takes Shatton Edge out of the equation thereby leaving Hope as the only option other than Freesat, although it will be interesting to find out if anything is indicated on the signal bars after C28 has been entered as it will be rather odd if nothing is.
